  • From 17 November abbey are launching a new account which gives new customers, who switch to Abbey, £100. This account is being launched as part of the November Banking campaign, and will be on sale from 17 November 2008 until 15 December 2008.
The customer must have switched their main income and direct debits to the £100 Bank Account using the Account Transfer Service

To receive the £100 the customer must make three monthly credits of at least £1,000 within the first 6 months of opening the account

Called into branch this morning, spoke to an 'adviser', and picked up a leaflet. In summary...
    • The £100 is only available with their 'preferential overdraft' current account option, NOT with the 8% AER 'in-credit' current account option.
    • Must switch "main income" and direct debits* using their 'Account Transfer Service'.
    • Must pay in at least £1,000 in 3 separate months out of the first 6 months from account opening.
    • £100 will be paid to the account within 60 days of the 3rd deposit of at least £1,000.
    Additionally...
    • "We will match your current credit card and overdraft facilities"
    • "We will give you an interest-free overdraft for 4 months"
    * I asked about switching accounts where there are no direct debits set up...only standing orders, and was told that this wouldn't be a problem.
  • thought it was 12 months fee overdraft, would not mind a free 5 grand overdraft for a year.

I saw the 12 months detailed on the Abbey website, but the leaflet I have definitely says 4 months (hence the quotes above).

I have a £10K pre-approved overdraft facility with Halifax (that I activated for a few days to get A&L to match it). Hmmm...I wonder if Santander have linked their Abbey & A&L customer records internally (shouldn't have...different FSA registrations)? Maybe I'll re-activate the Halifax overdraft facility, give it a go, and see what happens. :)
  • think abbey should be able to do it.

my overdraft with nationwide was 3 grand bumped it up to 5 grand last nite.

do u know when u switch accounts are you allowed to keep the old one open?

There's nothing mentioned in the leaflet. Maybe the website will be updated with more details on Monday when the offer is launched?

However, when I've 'switched' accounts previously it's always been optional, ie they send you a form to complete if you wish for them to do it for you.
  • thanks i got two current accounts if the overdraft is only for 4 months, i will switch from loyds to abbey to jus get the 100 pounds.

then next year i will get the freee 5 grand overdraft with alliance a liecester.
