Again, no, not particularly good credit. As long as you have a bank account already with a Debit card then you're generally fine, and as long as the new account gets a Visa Debit card then the credit card is guaranteed as well.

I might move my "2nd" account with Loyds over to Abby then. In order for them to give you the guaranteed credit card do you have to already have a card w/the bank you're switching from?

Any idea how long this offer of matching facilities is running for or is it ongoing?

It's probably a good idea to set up one or two dummy standing orders in that case, so that you have something to switch over.
  • I went into a branch of Abbey to find out how it all works. The man there explained everything. Strangely enough he told me I can open the account just to get the free £100 if I want and then close the account. He was polite, knowledgeable and he was also well fit.

Yep. As long as you agree to move your DDs (it doesn't matter if you don't actually have any).

and obviously you were in my branch :rotfl:
  • i applied for the Abbey £100 cashback account. They've give me an OD limit of £100,000 and a credit card with a credit limit of £50,000.00

    :)
  • I saw this offer in a branch last week so I decided to open an account. I'm  now. I explained to the person in the branch that I did not want an overdraft and that I would be in credit when I opened up this current account. The person then said that I would still get the £100 cash back offer. They also said to me that I would have to get a list of my direct debits and standing orders from my old bank account and forward this onto this branch.

After reading this thread does this mean that I will not get this £100 cashback offer. As I did not get an overdraft and that I will be doing all the leg work as they say?

I think that I will give them a ring on monday to find out what is going on as I only decided to switch to get the cash back offer of £100.
