They still have this router in:

The routers model number is WAG354G which tends to retail on its own (without pcmia card) at approx £55 mark. For spec:

    To answer above question...

You'll need to setup wireless security etc first before you'll get it work wireless, which isn't always the easiest of tasks if you've not done it before. You'll also likely need to enter your BT Broadband username/password into the, although exact procedures can vary depending on the type of BT setup you have.

To setup router, your best off getting it working through the network cable first. Usually you'll goto http://192.168.1.1 and enter the username and password, although this address can vary. Sometimes they come with a cd to help you set up the router, this might be easiest way for the inexperienced.
  • Hi

I have done all that and set it up with the cd however it wont recognise the network cable. How do I get round that?

If you connect network cable from router to pc, you should have a light on router to indicate its connected ok. If from a command prompt you type in the command ipconfig, you should hopefully see an ip address the router has issued to your pc.

I'm not familiar with the setup procedures, but you 'might' need to turn windows firewall off on your network connection also, so you can setup the router

    Hi

Can someone please help me. I bought one of these and cant get it to work. It wont recognise the connection from the pc to the router. Its a yellow cable that the instructions say should be blue if that makes a difference. Im on bt broadband, my laptop can pick it up as it has a built in wireless card, but i cant connect. I cant get through to technical support either.

    PLEASE HELP.

    Thanks

    Robin

Think you need to go back to the initial wiring as sounds as if you are going the wrong way.

There should be a cable (grey?) from the ADSL enabled PHONE socket into the clearly labelled LINE socket on the router. If you're using a real phone on that line too then you need the ADSL Microfilter on it.

The Blue cable is usually the ETHERNET cable to connect from the Ethernet port on a PC to one of the 4 Ethernet ports on the box and as others have mentioned you need to setup the Gateway box using such a WIRED Ethernet connection first, and THEN enable and setup wireless access.

  • Hi

Thanks for that, I have it set up exactly like that. The router's lights come on, phone line, 1 ethernet dsl and wireless, I have it trough the filter, but it wont recognise the connection from the pc to the router altough the router shows a connection from the ethernet cable???WHY...LOL...Its driving me crazy

Some ideas to help you: (a) Make sure the ETHERNET port on your PC is definitely ON (friends had the port turned off in the BIOS on their PC; (b) Make sure your MS IE is set up to work with a LAN connection and 'never dial' anymore - see Tools...InternetOptions... (c) Make sure your MS IE is set up to 'AUTOdetect' (LAN Settings on that MS-IE Tools-IntOptions page).

Beyond that recommend you go over to the http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk where can get focussed/ontopic help as not really appropriate to here on MSE.

    Thanks all round,
I have just reserved my one for collection for tomorrow.
Re-entered the web site again and it now reads £79.99 but I have printed off the reserve page showing £39.99 so here's hoping.

    Cheers

  • Just been to pick mine up and I appear to have been given a different model, higher spec with the speed booster, WAG54GS and was offered the laptop card or the dongle.

Happy bunny, thanks to the OP and the poster who pointed out it was now available online for Collect and Go icon7.gif

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I just went into my local PC World to find a pallet load of these for sale all marked up at £39.99.

Which makes the "£79.99 instore price" which they state online very misleading.
