Stray dog!!!

  • Aged 16-18 I worked in a livery yard that had boarding kennels attached, they took stray dogs in from the police or dog warden also. I lived in with the Owners of the stables & kennels & one of their dogs had been a stray & was supposed to be owned by my boss's b-f but he never bothered with her, boss's Mum said I could have her as he never came near her. She was also called Lucy & we think was either a Staffie x or a bad Staffie, she looked just like that pic! Wish I had a scanner, she was dark brindle & white also. In the end boss's Mum decided to rehome her & when I went nuts after she said she told the new Owner she had a student that was very attached to her & if I wanted her she'd have to come get her back!!!!!!!!! Like I could tell her to do that once she'd homed Luce. I miss her so much but this was in 1995-1997 so no doubt she's dead now, I did try to find where she'd been sent as I knew the road but we never found her :!! I hope you can keep him, he's a beautiful dog & makes me miss Speedwobble (As my Dad nicknamed her) even more x

Almond you just made me realize that he has also not barked. Just moans and groans.
I tried cutting his nails the other night but they are so hard. I need a special one from the pet store. My son named him Ben after Ben 10. I have tried to keep calling him that to a minimum so he does not get used to it if his owners collect him.
I have heard nothing back from any of the agencies I contacted, not even a follow up call. We put up posters this morning so fingers crossed. I am worried that someone will claim him and he is not theirs. He has no collar and look regular so I dont know what I can ask some one to prove he is theirs. He is so friendly he would play with anyone. Any ideas?

Have a good look all over him, does he have any scars or distinguishing marks? Like my cat has only got one canine tooth, maybe he has something his true owner would know like that? Also did you put where he was found? If not they might live close to there so that might help. Maybe ask to speak to their Vet? Surely their Vet would have an idea, maybe? I'd hope my Vet would be able to ID Podge! Tho I guess they see alot. Maybe their Vet will know their dogs been missing tho, if Podge went i'd contact my Vets to say. If they don't have a Vet they can't be good Owners!

My OH has taken him to the park, when they get back it have a good look over him.
We did not put where he was found in the poster but we only put them up in the two local towns. So anyone that sees the poster will be a local. The vet tip was great thanks.

don't give him back till you do a lot of checks, i have said about jay our wonderdog that died 4 years ago. will keep the story brief but we got her from a charity, she had been found wondering the streets, two weeks after we got her turned out the women that owned her wanted her back, she had 4 kids under the age of 5 (jay did'nt like kids) well i said noway and the women we got her from had to go to court (or thats what she told me)
jay gave us 12 years of love.
Now the strange bit two days after jay died i rang a charity to say i had dog food etc and could they use it. I got talking to the women and she said she knew me told me i had 3 kids and said she remembered jay ! and how they had to go to court to keep her. I thought you are a madwomen, she told me about the staffie cross and how nobody wanted it and i should come and have a look. Starting messing about with my a 2 z when i was talking to her and found the address i had used to get jay. Could'nt believe it and i bet you all can't either.
well back to story report it to the police and say you are wanting to keep it i think you have to wait 28 days, google it or somebody on here can help.
if any of us lost a dog the first place we would contact is the police vets etc. Not leaving it for three days. tell the police you don't want you contact details given out.
do you want to keep him?
  • Well to be honest, I wouldn't give him back even if someone came to the door saying he was theirs!

To my mind, he is too thin and those toenails are a disgrace! Even if someone doesn't fancy clipping them, they can always whip the dog to the vet and let him clip them, so there's no excuse!

With him doing pees inside though now and then, I think there could be a possibility (bearing in mind the length of his nails too) that he has been kept indoors .. maybe in a barn ... so he isn't trained to wee outside.

Tell you something though ... that first photo shows he has no fear at all in his eyes. Seems to me he is pretty relaxed and at home with you and your family ... *S* ... I hope no one comes to claim him, cos he seems at ease being with you ... !!
  • Because he is a staff it makes me think he was dumped. I volunteer at a dog rescue shelter and 95% of the dogs we have at the moment are staffs ranging from 6months to 12months. I wouldn't trust the people that bring them in with a hamster let alone a dog!! They've become too easily attainable so the wrong people own them & then are surprised that they're such a responsibility. Someone left one with us yesterday evening because 'it barks at fireworks.'

They are incredibly loyal and affectionate plus they are very easy to train. We now put on little performances showing of sit/stay/recall/roll over to try and entice people away from the cute terriers & to pick up a staff instead!
The only thing worse than smug married couple; lots of smug married couples.

He is doing just fine. He is not micro chipped and as yet I have heard nothing back from any of the charities and company's I called to report him found.
We put up 50 odd posters and nothing yet from that. We just have to wait and see. I put an ad on gumtree too so with a bit of luck Ill hear something soon. His nails are clipped and still no more accidents.
  • I think you need to resign yourself to the fact you're stuck with a very cute Staffie. Oh how awful :D
