you need a distraction sometimes hon and what better a distraction than MSE!
firstly have a slap for thinking about giving up. I've been far too lapse with my support of others of late, have seen you on other communication methods and wotnot and not said hello etc. if i have my way you ARE NOT Giving up you hear me!!!! and due to all the communication methods we have if you are giving up i shall hunt you down and drag you back kicking and screaming if necessary!!! :);):D
It IS NOT insurmountable and you are making all the right moves both physically and mentally to overcome the debt and the reasons behind it. Confronting the reasons why is the biggest and hardest thing you can do. take pride in the fact that you are doing it.

Ok, challenge time. I have a northern rock loan coming to an end in may which will free me up £274 per month. fancy a challenge of who can get theirs paid quicker?

  • Thank you ISOM - think the only way I can deal with this debt is to stay on here. Was lying in bed last night thinking the amount we owe is completely insurmountable and I may as well give up, worry about recession, losing jobs etc but this morning I am thinking if I tackle the smaller debts surely it will make me realise we could pay all this off? I can potentially pay £20k off next year with serious cutbacks but it would still mean that there is a lot owing - please someone tell me I can do it!

You can do it! :j Stick with this place and I'm sure you can manage it. Hypno had a great idea a while back, that quite a few people have adopted, about dividing your debt into squares and colouring them in as you pay off a certain amount - there's been all sorts of creative ideas with it. Mine fell apart rather quickly :o but it's very motivational seeing it building up.

  • I like the square idea, download anyone

Have just been very very good, a group of friends have asked us to go out over xmas, I would love to see them but have said no and suggested they all come to us, bring a dish of food and we can have a xmas buffet - so shouldn't cost us much at all and get to see everyone.....

  • welcome back and sorry about your friend

You can do this - I'm in a really similar position to you (but without the kiddies) and the trick is to just keep plugging away

You sound really positive and we will all get there

  • The gut wrenching pain does ease but it takes time...I know that feeling of wanting just one more hug...my granny (much loved) died a few years ago and that yearning for smooth her lovely soft face and have a hug still remain but I think its a way of remembering them and the love that was shared so while sad I cant touch/hug her I know that she loved me as much as I loved her and that helps...sometimes you just have to "rest" in the pain you feel and go with it....a friend of mine says "this too shall pass" and over time this has meant more and more to me as its a gentle and loving reminder for me that it WILL pass...huge from me...
re the debt you will get there but like the grief it will take time. never thought that I would ever get mine down to even where I am now and while havent had a brilliant year debtbusting do feel more in control but just accpt (for today at least!) that its gonne be a while....hang in there and joi us on the longhaulers....I'l be around for at least 5 yrs although that may put you off lol!!
