I really hope that was not the case.

That would smack horribly of censorship.

Doesn't the PCI pride itself on its democracy, individuality, and freedom of speech?

But it would explain the deadly silence

In th report of the recent meeting of the General Board of the Presbyterian Church http://www.presbyterianireland.org/news/news2009/news0653.html
it states that " The Moderator's Advisory Committee affirmed the steps that had been taken to inform the Church of the situation as it was known, recognising that the Church has limited knowledge. There was much discussion of the growing concern among shareholders and the position of the Church. The Committee recognised some of the legal issues which may emerge.
In general the advice was to say little until the Administrator was able to make a full and accurate assessment of the Society. The Committee also considered a possible letter from the Moderator to follow up that of the Clerk. A small group was appointed to advise the Moderator on this letter, which was sent to all Ministers on 21 November, 2008."

I may be wrong but i interpret the above as "Say as little as possible incase someone thinks that the PCI and the PMS are linked and we get sued."

If any of you think that I am misguided please feel free to correct me.
  • There is a new petition to 10 Downing St on line to be printed off and signed manually. We have so little time to get it returned, Dear me!!
  • very telling last two sentences
"A spokesman for the PMS administrator said he was legally forbidden from releasing details of his reports on directors, which would be passed to DETI.

The information would come into the public domain if DETI found there were grounds to prosecute or if there was a public inquiry, he added."
  • Nearly 66000 views now - are people afraid to come forward and give their opinions?

I don't believe that people are afraid as such. I think that even though there might be 66000 views that this forum is dying a death. There are only about 10 regular posters left.....even the straw poll run by jon_groovy only got ~130 replies. I believe that now the vote has been completed that people are just sitting waiting to see what will happen. So much has been done with Downing Street petitions, numerous contacts to MLAs, MPs etc etc. And lets be honest how much further on are we or how much wiser?? I believe that the PMS directors will come out of all of this unscathed. There might be 300000 people in the PCI and 10000 investors in the PMS but it seems very few of them are interested in this forum! I honestly think that is the Presbyterian way of doing things.....keep your head down, don't make a fuss, keep everything quiet and private.......There are a few fighters left here but I think it's at a stage where it won't make a difference.
  • I do agree that media coverage is dying away and people are just keeping their heads down.
Why not organise a protest outside PMS offices?
Co-ordinate a Sunday where people don't attend church in support of PMS members and PCI's lack of morals at stepping in and helping the savers?
Think outside the Presbyterian box; create a little bit of an uncomfortable media stir for PCI?:rotfl:
Just a thought, but I hate to see PCI escape and come away from this without putting their hands in their rather large and a little too deep pockets.;)
  • We are all good wee Presbyterians, who trusted our savings in the good care of the Presbyterian Mutual Society, most would not have thought of phoning the PMS to ask if their savings was ok, because they had so much trust happy in the knowledge that it was in good hands as promised and assisting in the maintainance of churches and other church buildings etc. After all it wasn't in stocks and Shares it was a savings account

  • Goodbyepci...I said it was dying....not dead. I was only trying to be objective with my opinion.....thousands upon thousands of people are affected by this situation yet this forum has had 6 posters today. Why is that?

As I have mentioned before on this forum I have no money invested in the PMS (as I'm a lapsed Presbyterian) but several members of my family do including my parents. I try to keep them up to date with information from this forum. Someone had mentioned previoulsy about a protest at Stormont....when I said this to my parents they were completely aghast and said they would definitley not be interested in doing something like that. I think most people are very private about their investments or maybe just embarrassed given the current situation.

Well then Bannside your parents and many others will probably lose some of their savings - if people are not prepared to come out and speak out then this issue will fade away and take the normal course of action through the Administrator - doing exactly what the PMS and PCI want.

It always happens in all walks of life - there are the doers and the watchers - well maybe its time to let this all go - and we will all start to watch and see what happens.

It was not a protest at Stormont - it was only a suggestion given the fact we were denied a public meeting!
