  • crazymess I am not suggesting anyone is at fault at all. I am just asking if concrete steps have been taken to see what options there are for getting information about the process that has taken us to this point.

The minister, Arlene Foster, said a broad range of stakeholders supported credit unions offering a wider range of services.

"My view is that credit unions that are willing to offer – and capable of offering an enhanced range of financial services and products to their members – should be enabled to do so," she said.

Well, what's stopping you Mrs Foster? The Credit Unions have been asking to be allowed to do this for years, and your department have done sod all about it!

    Welcome to the thread Toastandbutter.

Unfortunately it is my feeling that people who have savings with PMS are a little concerned at potential financial implications of appointing a solicitor [throwing good money after bad money so to speak].

Also litigation is intimidating for 'joe public' and they may be reluctant to proceed.

    Where do they start?

Who do you suggest is at fault here?

crazymess - this post really comes across as quite confrontational and aggressive, it could put a newbie off, although I'm sure you don't mean it to.
  • Law Soc says firms may offer intial consultation but are not obliged to and to ring around a few and try;-

it would cost NOTHING to phone around a few with experience and ask what they might offer.

I suggest some of the bigger Belfast firms with domestic and commercial depts might be worth a try.

I am surprised with all the expertise here -and money at stake- that nobody has done this so far, as it appears.

An initial step would be even to ask Citizens Advice what options there are.

The big questions seem to be the disparity between PMS advertising and practise in investment terms.

There is one MEP with a legal background who has no ties to Govt here who might offer advice....
  • the cost could be minimal ... i dont know.... especially if it was divided among the group here....

I think most people have been focussing initially on lobbying government for support, trying to get PCI to take some responsibility and speaking to local politicians to again try to find a local solution. Legal action will for most people be an action of last resort.

I know some people have already taken legal advice but once you have made your calls it would be interesting to hear the feedback you receive.

I think also some people may be offended by the implication that they havent been doing much for the last 4 months - i am sure it wasnt intended as the people who have been posting here are the ones who have been endlessly writing letters, making calls and spending a great time of time on the matter.
  • Hi Expat, no offence intended at all.

I said: "I am surprised with all the expertise here -and money at stake- that nobody has done this so far, AS IT APPEARS".

ie got legal advice on how they might access information you are after - ie not litigation but info on investment policies.

Please lets set the emotions aside for a sec.

Has anyone here actually got legal advice on how they might access the information you are after?

I made it clear I was not presuming this had been done. But has it?

If so can you point me to the post?

If not, please lets set aside the issue of blame and perhaps someone might do it?

I wont be doing it as I am not an investor.

You guys asked readers to join in, here I am.

Two people said they found my post helpful, with the law soc link.

I was trying to be constructive.

If you really want to take a vote as to whether you want me a around... well I wont hang around for the answer.

    No offence meant or taken.
  • These may be worth looking up;-

    Insolvency (NI) Order 2005

Chronic frustration has left some people a bit tetchy.
