    Folks
Don't forget while you are in writing mode, Lord Mandelson said he wanted to hear what PMS savers had to say.

So if you haven't already written to him it may be worth while.

Also worth while writing to Gordon Brown himself as well.
His email service is not working at the moment, so you'll have to hard copy.

I'm sure you all know that address!

Is there an email address for Lord Mandelson?
    Snail-mail is so tedious.

Someone posted it at the time, it was on this thread ages back
It was done through "they work for you" and there was quite a performance to go through to send your letter, it wasn't just a simple email.

Maybe someone else would be kind enough to look back for it, or check out an email for him?

Sorry I'm a bit rushed at the minute.

PS I haven't received a response yet from Lord Mandelson, apparently the letter is faxed on to him for his response.
Maybe it got covered in green custard and is illegible!

    (Sorry Lord Mandelson, only joking)

When I opened my post this morning I thought of you guys. There was an envelope from a prominent building sociey, asking me to vote on different issues, directors salaries, plus nominations to the board or I could authorise the chairman to vote on my behalf. There were reams of papers/small print on matters about which I know nothing, which I started to read, but couldn't be *rsed. I did nothing.

So for that plank from the PMS to suggest savers should have read the paperwork at the time, I would pose the following questions - does anybody? is it only those with a deeply vested interest who do? does it get put it easy to read and understand terms? would individual votes make a difference when so many of the manipulators have block votes? What a numpty!

I don't know about the rest of you but the only correspondence I ever remember receiving from PMS was the annual report and accounts?
In 2008 it was a summarised version (I wonder why?)
Apart from that if you put money in you received a receipt and then a share or loan cert, and then there was the annual dividend payment.

I don't remember any "small print" or nominations for the Board?

Of course there was the little blue book of rules, which I've made a close study of this last 4 months :rotfl:

That was one of the beauties of the PMS really

    It was simple

And we all thought it did what it said on the tin!

I consider myself reasonably financially savvy (as house-wives go) and I always read all the PMS literature from cover to cover, including the Annual Report every year, but I saw nothing that worried me; nothing to suggest they were lending large amounts of money for building sites or development land.
I can recall nothing in the literature that explained or highlighted the fact that I was not just investing my money but that I was actaully buying shares in a Limited Company or nothing telling me that "shares" and "loans" would, by law, be treated differently if the PMS ever got into financial difficulty. As a well-informed Presbyterian I knew that Presbyterians DO NOT GAMBLE so what had I to worry about?
To be honest, compared to the amount of boring bumph I get from a High Street Building Society, the PMS literature was fairly easy to read and there was little, if any, "small print". It always seemed to me more like a "gentleman's agreement" and, after all, if my church was encouraging me to invest in it, what call had I to worry? To me it was a form of ethical investment!
Dear luck to my wit! :rotfl:

Which is probably how the majority felt.

Those 'in the know' probably relied on people feeling that way. So unfortunate that it transpires they are both 'ungentlemanly and unethical'. Complete betrayal of trust.

On a different note: Where's Belfastgran got to these days?

I hope you are telling Mr McFall and his colleagues all this?

You have some excellent points here!

Well thank-you, must be the first compliment I have had all day.:D
I emailed John McFall just before Nomad posted a few minutes ago and I hope that I included everything. When Nomad said what he did I suddenly realised the difference between mailing from a High Street Building Society and from the PMS. Have to dash now and do "Mom's Taxi" but once some-one dredges up an email address for Lord Mandelson I will contact him also.
  • To send an email to Lord Mandelson type - they work for you - into your search engine.
    Click on "lords"
There is a very long alphabetical list - scroll down and click on his name. Then click on "send a message to Lord Mandelson". This opens a page entitled "write to them". Complete the required details and if you have any energy left after that compose your letter to him. Good luck!!
