It was Thomas Stanley Callaghan who started the Downing St petition
Not the Presbyterian Church in Ireland
They jumped on the bandwagon and are now trying to claim the credit.
If anyone is going to Downing St, it should be Thomas Stanley Callaghan!
Big Thank you to Thomas Stanley Callaghan!

Is the Newsletter aware of this forum? Maybe someone [a PMS saver] should send a link to Mr Bradfield? It would give him more info on what's been going on and how devious the PCI, etc. have been.0

Excellent that TSC started petition, but also good (IMO) that Moderator action (by joining in) means TSC's online petition has been supplemented with 28K more names (on paper).
So, thank you to Moderator as well. Yes?0 -
Nomad25 - Done and sent to P Bradfield
Brick - Yes it is great that moderator and those supporting ministers have encouraged the petition and got another 28,000 signatures.
Sorry to sound a wee bit negative but there are 300,000 people in PCI - where are the other approx 270,000 signatures and did all ministers promote it in their congregations? Sorry to ask this but....0 -

Speaking personally, I would challenge Government for providing support to just about every ailing financial institution except PMS.
If PMS savers enjoyed the same protection as bank savers I don't believe we would be where we are today.
So, on that basis, I believe that Government have a case to answer - and should be challenged.
For PMS savers to lose savings, plus have to pay through taxes for assistance of all other non-PMS banks/savers is unjust (IMO).
There are separate issues about PMS savers being (massively) misled/unclear about how their savings were used, PMS savers not being clearly warned about status of their institution/savings (radically different to "bank" status), whether or not PMS declined to join saver protection sheme (and if so, why did regulatory authority permit them to to decline?), etc.
But surely, given the extent to which financial rule book has been torn up by Government, there is a basis for expecting parity of treatment/support for citizens? (and a somewhat faster response time)
I agree that there are questions Church has to answer as well, and some self-slamming may be in order.0 -
Having written to the Treasury Select Committee earlier this month, I received a reply from them today. They are keen to hear individual views and experiences from PMS investors. They are hoping to publish their findings and recommendations from their inquiry in early April.
Time is of the essence folks - if you want your views heard email John McFall at:-

I wonder is this the report that Gordon Brown is waiting on before he meets with the First and Deputy First Ministers?
If it is then it is vitally important to tell them our stories.
Other members of the committee that day were
Michael Fallon MP (Conservative I think)
fallonm@parliament.uk
and Graham Brady MP
email to crowthers@parliament.uk
Graham Brady has been campaigning on behalf of Equitable Life investors
There was another person on the committee, but I didn't get their name."Our Society is one of the great successes of our Church"

From the above article:
"The Prime Minister has said he will not meet the ministers about the PMS until a Treasury report on the matter is completed."
So it's not just pressure on G.B., it's pressure on us to get our comments/letters off to

Remember the parable of the persistent widow? :rolleyes2
