Would you all just give it a rest?

I don't mind the odd insult, certainly don't mind sharp debating, etc.

But the constant ad hominem attacks on this board, especially over the last few days, are just so damn dull.

Whether people live with their old mum, are married or single, have split up or not, own BTL slum properties, have different posting names - can we all just leave it before I expire of terminal bordom?
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

Agreed though, you should never attack someone on MSE. Just argue your points.

You should never say anything to anyone online that you wouldn't say in real life.

100% Agree on that. I have made the odd tounge in cheek coment which have offended some (but they were meant as a joke) but I 100% stick by those are the same tounge in cheek coments I make in real life.
I am a cheeky joker with a sense of humour that can be close to the wire but belive me I do not mean to be offensive.;)

"Really" was saying the same in a post the other day.

Last week I was getting old £20 notes switched to new types at my bank... and the cashier had an air or reluctance about it, and was saying that it doesn't really matter as the old type are still perfectly acceptable, and anyone she knows would be happy to accept them.

Now I wanted to say, well your bank is now majority owned by the Government, and if it hadn't stepped in the bank would have gone bust, and you'd be out of a job, and maybe I'd have less places to switch them to new notes if the old ones are suddenly determined to no longer be acceptable, so would you look at my bank balance, and kindly please keep your advice to yourself, and just do what I have asked you to do.

Pretty reasonable in my opinion, but I didn't because she would have probably taken it very personally... where on a forum I can speak my mind freely without it being taken too personally.

You should have done the dirty look whilst raising an eyebrow;) .
But I think you would have a case for the bank keeping it shut as you were the customer and the customers always right (except for when they are wrong:D)

    .

Not long ago I paid for a train ticket using 5 or 10 pence in 'coppers' and the cashier moaned at me saying they don't give change in ones and two p's. I ignored her and now make a concerted effort to always chose her window and always pay as much as I can in 1 and 2ps.:)
