  • Oh dear all gone a bit pete tong ;o(

Not had a very good month at all. Have been really ill again and have had to face up to the fact that I am unable to work anymore. D'oh. Have given notice at work so it is a reality. It is a shame but it is totally the RIGHT decision - I need to get better and it also means I can spend more time with DS (yay!!) Just means that we are going to be a bit poor for a while - can survive on OH wages but debt busting may have to be toned down a bit. Will have to see....

anyway as I am know starting to feel better (no work, no stress etc....) will need to do the following -

    1) new money plan for 2009
    2) update all figures etc and work out totals
    3) new life plan for 2009

  • Hi Baby - sorry to hear that you are not well again and that you will be unable to work, but at least you know where you are know. One thing I would say is that if you are going to change your car insurance (or anything for that matter) remember to go through Quidco or one of the other cashback sites.

We had £100 cashback with our insurance which reduced it from £295 to £105 - what a saving. So far this year we have managed to get nearly £400 cashback by buying things through Quidco so really is worth it.

It might be worth going on a site (sorry can't remember the name, but somebody else will be able to tell you) about whether you are receiving the right amount in benefits and now that you are unable to work, a new update is in order.

Good luck and keep up the good work.
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:

Thanks for the advice. I have only recently enjoyed quidco!!

I have done the benefits thing already - unfortunately can't claim much as OH earns too much and I do still work from home as well a little bit. Oh I wish I was single..... Have put in my claim for DLA though although it can take 3 months for a decision!!! Benefits are so complicated...if my claim for DLA is agreed I didn't realise it wasn't means tested so would have lost out on money.....grrr. oh well.

Right...need to get off MSE and make a list of jobs to do.

    Ok...

Have done a review. We are going to be okay and can survive without benefits at the moment but when we move (which hopefully will be asap as living with rents) we can just survive but it will be close and cc needs to be paid off. Until have confirmation what benefits we are entitled to now - will not be budgeting for any over payments. Will have to do some selling. When benefits confirmed if accepted we will be able to afford to put some against debt again.

Feel like that sounds really bad as claiming benefits but in my defence I can't claim anything other than DLA (if I can get it) and my OH may get carers allowance. Not intitled to IS, IB etc etc. When we move again we may get HB and CTB but obviously will cross that bridge when the time comes. And I do lose CTC as well now (as working less hours).

Have updated signature with payments - need to update 20k challenge thread with totals.

Haven't updated debt totals yet - as payments not completed for January yet.

    more to follow.....

wish barclays would hurry up and update its figs - can then sort out my totals for the month. come on its the 7th of the month already....

debt is going to increase this month - as can no longer afford to make a payment to my mum (which i hadn't included in totals before) and as my job paid me in advance for working but I am now off sick and not entitled to sick pay anymore I am going to owe them money which is carp!! Have told them that I will have to pay in installments which they are happy with - well they have no choice really

Have set myself and the family some objectives for 2009 - short and long term ones, financial and none financial. I won't bore any of you with them ;). They are really done becuz both OH and I feel as though 2008 has gone by and we haven't achieved anything as still in same situ part from I am now sicker. Have put in my claim for DLA. Apparantely I am/will be entitled to Higher rate mobility and middle rate care - about 90 quid a week. Carers Allowance is a no no as OH's income is above 95 a week. They take ages though but it is backdated if I am accepted. Will have to wait and see. Haven't budgeted for this in anyway so will be a bonus if get IYKWIM.

Finance wise - paying off the cc/od are TOP priority and MUST be done asap. Have roughly 2k on expensive credit. Once this is done will free up more cash to overpay on loans or (if we are skint) free up some cash each month for life. Also need to put roughly £1500 in emergency fund for when we do move to get some bits. Hopefully can do this by selling some of our mountain of stuff!

20k Challenge - have pd about 1600 since challenge began which is a good start but there is no more budget out of guaranteed income until end of jan now  So any extra will have to be made!! and i need to build up emergency fund first! d'oh.

Other than that life is ticking over smoothly. Got lots to do today as DS is at nursery (paid for in advance -d'oh) and want to get as much done as poss when he isnt about. So in light of that... am getting my butt off here NOW!
