Lay a newspaper over the footwell overnight and replace as necessary. The heater will do the rest.

Good shout. I'll do that to get the worst bits (that the sponge couldn't).

Thanks for all the tips, everyone. I think I'll use a combination of these ideas to deal with it!

There should be a sealed plastic sheet between the metal of the door and the door card (the inner trim with handles etc on). If not, then the water will just be dripping in through the bottom of the door rather then out throught the drain-off holes in the bottom of the outer edge of the door.

The boot may have a poor seal on one side, possible where the seal joins as it's rarely a one-piece seal but a strip cut to length.

Thank you. Will have a looksy ;)

    I've been Money Tipped!
If you find that your carpet starts smelling then try the Stain and Odour Remover from Pets at Home.

I bought some when we got a puppy but didn't have to use it much.

However, it did come in handy for the fiesta that we are scrapping as it always rains in the boot and the carpet was stinking.

Just a couple of sprays and you will find that it neutralizes the smell.

    :)

It's about £6.50 a bottle but if you have a small spray bottle that you can use then get the refill bottle which is £5.

  • we had this with our golf, well the problem was the window letting in water when it openened at will in the middle of the night

i found heater pointed at the floor and the rear windows open just a little pulled the water out pretty quick

also leave the windows open just a cm whenever you can

  • I know you don't have electric near the car, but perhaps someone elses house? You could try one of those water-sucking vacuum cleaners?
