Now would be a bit too early for me (but don't think I am not tempted). The best time is when it suits you and your family in my opinion.
We moved here about 5 years ago and our house is seen as a "Christmas house", i.e. it is old and traditional and really lends itself to old fashioned decorations.
We can't always get together on the 25th but I always make a point of having a family gathering mid December (13th this year) so I get the house ready for then. We live near the countryside so I buy a real tree from the farm, they do lovely Christmas door wreaths too, real ones. I am lucky that our house is surrounded by holly including a huge holly bush by the front door, so I don't do much else outside, I like the natural look.
Indoors we have a woodburning stove with a huge old mantlepiece which gets dressed up for Christmas, lots of logs, kindling etc. The fire lends a lot of atmosphere.
This time next year we should have 2 grandchildren (on their way at the moment, fingers crossed), so I can indulge myself in all that next year, go over the top from now on. I already make puddings for everyone, mulled wine, cookies etc. and hope my "kids" keep up the traditions.0 -
