MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. Would you dent someone’s car if they blocked you in?

I suffered pretty much the same thing a few months ago, returning to the car park to find some 'berk in a merc' parked in a 'non-space' completely blocking three cars in, including mine...but I came up with a solution not involving possible damage to either car. I was tempted to nudge the offender out of the way but my car has got a 'style over substance' bumper and I didn't want to bend it...then I had a bit of a lightbulb moment....
Took out a match, unscrewed the dustcaps and let down all four of their tyres! No worrying about damage, since i've not actually damaged their car in any way...! Then simply retired to the greasy spoon over the road, bagged myself a window seat and waited...
Oh the joy that a simple act such as watching a wheel being changed in the rain can bring...especially when having changed said wheel the hapless fool finally noticed the other three flats...!
:beer:if i had known then what i know now0 -
Certainly.....far too many selfish idiots on the road0

There seem to be some real thoughtless people out there. Even parking in between white lines is a struggle for some! :wall:
I would never damage my car by shunting someone else's. I always come off worse! Saving money for genuine repairs/accidents, not ones I didn't need to inflict on my vehicle!
There's days in our road where you wish you had a tank and could roll over some of these cars!!
I also rate the old Volvos as pretty darn solid cars. If I was blocked in when driving my m8's old one, I would have no fear to shunt and release!0 -
Being 6'5", very bad tempered and, built like a "brick !!!! house" I would await the return of the offending car's owners and make sure that they saw the error of their ways. .... anyway a trip to A&E would I'm sure be most instructive ........ "no its criminal damage"
I don't think it is. I think that you can reasonably move the vehicles to enable you to exit. I'm sure there is case law somewhere to support this - I must go and look.0 -
Def not - I have too much respect. Also, one of them could be completely innocent - the other car not being there when they parked and so they wouldn't know you would end up blocked in.
Also you never know what led to the inconsiderate parking. If they were on a mercy mission having just had a call from granny laying on the floor having fallen - they wouldn't have been thinking about how they had parked - not nice to return and find to add to the bad day, they now have to repair their car.
Would be annoying - but I have never ever opened my car door carelessly (I hate it when you get dings from inconsiderate others) so I certainly wouldn't purposly nudge and damage someone else's car.Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that take our breath away0 -
I have a very sturdy tow ball fitted to my car and it would come very useful!!!0

I've been both an offender and a victim of this!
Just recently I was legally parked behind my place of work and some idiot decided to block the exit. So I looked round and seeing that no one was around slowly started driving my 18 year old banger towards the rear of the (nice shiny new, I might add) offending car. I tried to push his car but it seemed I was going to need a run up as my small and light car didn't seem to have enough power. Just as I set my car up (this time in a position ready to reverse at speed into his car), this man comes running down the road with his arms in the air. I carried on reversing (albeit slowly) pretending I didn't see him and he quickly got in his car and promptly moved his car. I drove off before he could get a chance to see the scrapes and scratches on the back of his car.
Now for my victim story... when I walked to my car to go to my morning uni lectures, I found my car parked on my street at my student house in Bristol, had 2 deflated tyres and a note saying that if I blocked them in again, they'll be more than 2 deflated tyres. I was livid because you could still get in the driveway. I even have a photo showing this! I know they got in and out OK as the car wasn't there (just as well because I wouldn've done more to his tyres as well!)
In answer to the OP though, I would not use my car to move them as I now own a new car which doesn't have a "battering ram" type bumper which my old car did. I would however try moving their car by hand though.0 -
Our pickup has bull bars on the front and a sturdy tow bar at the back, so I doubt we would come off worst if it was used to 'nudge' someone....OH probably wouldn't hesitate to shunt if someone had blocked him in.
But I wouldn't let him - I would feel guilty if the other car got damagedCross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. I don't drive a car myself so am not best qualified to answer, but if one car had been parked in a way which clearly prevented my leaving my parking space, I'd probably call the local parking-enforcement agency (after looking up their number) to inform them of a clear breach of the regulations. That way, a traffic-warden could issue the other car-owner with some sort of penalty.
Nudging the offending vehicle will only work if there is a gap of an inch or two you need to get through- any more than that will mean serious damage to both vehicles, and an expensive insurance claim on your policy.0
