If you have a dropped kerb ring your local police station. They will contact the driver and give him/her a ticking off and a ticket or fine. I found this out recently when I rang them with this same issue as I get fed up of being blocked in or out as well.

Yes it's a dropped kerb, I'm just reluctant to go down the police route cos I know it won't go down well with my neighbour, and he think it's not much hassle to knock on his door and get them to move their relatives car...but thats not the point - what if I'm in a rush?

Plenty of times I've come home, had to park at the bottom of the street - walk up - get them to move their car - walk back to mine - park in my drive, and then they merrily park back in front of my drive.....they can't see it as a problem. It makes me think am I being unreasonable?

I'm just sure if I knew where the relatives lived and left my car in front of their drive..they wouldn't be very happy :rotfl:

Heck yes, been there done that, though I did get the missus to put a cushion between the two cars while I pushed it. Thing is that the car in front blocked me in to make sure that they were off the double yellow lines. Guess where they were after I'd gone. Yep, fully onto the double yellows :rotfl:
The trouble with common sense is... it isn't really that common!
  • I own a punto and had a major crash in it not long ago, wrecked the front of the other guys car but no damage whatsoever to the back of mine.

So if i was blocked in, i would ram the hell out of the car behind me because it would do minimal damage to my car and its their fault anyway
  • I'd sit with my hand on the horn until loads of people came to see what was up. Then explain that I'd been blocked in and see what happened LOL
  • No I wouldn't. I'd set it on fire. :)

The bumpers on most modern cars are nothing more than cosmetic pieces of body coloured trim which offer no real protection against bumps and mark at the slightest touch. So if the other car is old and yours is one of the typical modern 'style over substance' designs then it will probably be your car which comes off the worst.

Shame cars don't have proper bumpers like the ones on old Volvos.

As much as I'd love to, if someone is ignorant enough to trap me in like that: surely the one who's doing the denting would be responsible for the insurance claim? I'd rather hunt down one of the culprits nearby, as it seems likely that at least one of them will be in a nearby building.

Unless driving off after damaging a car without leaving insurance details (illegal) is being suggested, in which case, tut tut! And if there's a witness peering through a window somewhere, you're done for.

If one of them will move by shoving it in person (light car, poor brakes) I'd happily leave a note on the windscreen asking them to leave a shoehorn next time.

I know what you mean about Puntos being tough. At a roundabout I was sat behind a Punto, but started driving on but the Punto hadn't moved yet! My Fiesta had a damaged radiator, dented bumper and buckled bonnet. Punto didn't have a scratch!

If I was trapped in a space I think I'd call the police non emergency number and as for advice/assistance. I would be too scarred of damaging my own car or worried about an altercation.
Nuts just take up space where chocolate ought to be.
  • Lets be fair, if you dont want to damage your bumpers and your feelin in a kind mood, just sit down and think about what to do. Ussually I find sitting down heavily on their bonnet helps. Make 'sure' your sharp keys arnt half dangling out of your pockets whilst you move your poor tired rear around to get comfy. And make sure you 'slide' off the bonnet so you dont wear out those weary legs. I'd say you will need at least 30 seconds of moving about.

Then get in your car, smile, think enjoy and drive off as best you can. And it works wonders if they are watching behind their curtains too as they smirk at 'your' problem.

    :D

Or if you have a Chelsea tractor with some bull bars then I guess you'd be ok just forcing your way out. But I certainly wouldn't risk damaging my car.

You're only allowed Bull Bars if your car is older than June (or could be July) 2007, mine isn't, so I'm not allowed bull bars, but if I had bought an 07 model secondhand I could have fitted them:rolleyes:

Always the wheel at the back;)
