AVG, the popular anti-virus package, has falsely identified Adobe Flash as potentially malicious. The snafu comes just days after AVG slapped a bogus Trojan warning on a core Windows component.
My flash player won't work anymore or won't re- install... Did my AVG get rid of it and mess up my computer (running XP)NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Wrong. It affected ALL versions of XP. Do you honestly believe the words of the people who have made the cockup? It was reported by AMERICAN users first off.
Were they using the English version though? The USA (I presume you mean) has many languages.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not sticking up for AVG as such, but I'd be interested to see more solid evidence that English XP was affected. In other words, that AVG are lying.0 -

Tell me what language the dialogue box is:

Surely it'd not be in English if it weren't on an English install?0 -
Tell me what language the dialogue box is:
Do you really need me to tell you what language that dialogue box is?! I was only asking for some evidence. But yes, based on that it does cast a lot of doubt on that article from the (Australian) AVG website.Surely it'd not be in English if it weren't on an English install?
So you'd expect AVG to get at least that much right? ;-)
Cheers for the link.0 -
AVG has been a pain in the butt ever since they brought out version 8. I used it for years but now I seem to have update problems every day on both my laptop and pc, plus their bogus warnings

To be fair, sandboxie is a fantastic idea. But like linux, is NOT inpenetrable.
I am quite secure in the knowledge that I won't have a malware issue running Sandboxie and I am still to be convinced that it is penetrable.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -
Ok. Time to do the Avira installation.
Can anyone recommend a reliable download link?0 -

On their own site I pluck this ~

How safe would I be, by using Sandboxie?
You would be quite safe using Sandboxie. It should be noted that, from time to time, people are able to find some vulnerability in Sandboxie, an open hole through which malicious software can still infiltrate the system.
This happens once every few months, on average, and is quickly resolved by closing the hole that is the attack vector.
Thus it's a good idea to have more traditional anti-malware software. "
They THEMSELVES advise using anti malware protection too!
They also ADMIT that every few months another vulnerability is found:idea:0 -
