  • Nice to see that AVG does extensive beta testing before releasing an update - after all, that one would have slipped by even the most skilled tester ;).
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my marbles the most.

Ahh, didn't think Avira did, thanks espresso and eshul - my main reason for not using it.

The very rare virus I have had come in, has always been in an e-mail attachment, not that I'd ever open anything from someone I didn't know, but I do like to know AVG is checking inbound and outbound and get it deleted immediately.

If you WERE to open an email attachment with Avira installed, it would catch it instantly anyways

..unless like most people you have the email preview pane open in Outlook Express/Outlook and it contains a malicious script in which case it wouldn't.

This is one of the reasons I run NOD. It does that and also does it for your browser as well. I opened up a legit webpage last night only for NOD to flash up a warning of a redirect in the background that was trying to open some dodgy site repeatedly until I left navigated away from the site. Would AVG pick that up? No. Would Avira? AFAIK, yes, but then it's countered by what it doesn't do.

Im not going to the argue the toss with you on that.
But if my computer opened up the same webpage, nothing NEED flash up as I have NOSCRIPT installed anyways which instantly stops any site redirects (And all free too ;))

Get Windows live desktop client .

Yes... but your running a security program that has declined rapidly in the last year ,
It used to be excellent .
Poor results in the last two tests ,and ESET don`t seem to be pulling their finger out.

Surely if your buying a subscription for an AV program you would base your purchase on results not just reputation and the GUI . Also you should review this every year.

btw love those annoying pop ups !

That's nice. Does everybody who has a PC know this?

What annoying popups? If you want to see annoying popups, use Avast!. And I'm purchasing it based on 4 years of results on dozens of PCs with users of all ability used in both private and commercial environments.

  • Ok, I've been using 7.5 on my Vista Basic pc for some time and running scared of installing version 8.0 because of all the unrave reviews.

    1. Is Avira free a simple thing to install?

    and

    2. Is AVG 7.5 a simple thing to uninstall, as I assume is necessary?
