    ;)

Thankfully have never had a problem bad enough I've had to try this, but I believe it's pretty good....but let's save the big guns until all else fails :D

moggy - your C: drive is normally your pc's hard disk (unless you have it partitioned, but we won't go there just yet :D) Find it by going to My Computer, and you should see your hard drive there, probably called C:

to create a restore point, go to Start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system restore....and work through the process..it only takes a couple of minutes :)

moggy, a last bit of advice.....

after you have run ccleaner (do the registry scan first, delete anything it finds, then run the cleaner, delete everything again), go to system restore and create a new restore point. Then go to your C: drive, right-click and go to properties and click disk cleanup. It will scan for carp files (only quick, don't worry :D). Ensure all in the results box are ticked, then Click options tab, and click to delete all but the latest restore point, then click ok, then ok, and let it do it's stuff.

Once disk cleanup's finished, go to the tools tab, defragment, defragment now...then restart the pc.

This should now ensure your pc is running optimally, with a nice squeaky-clean restore point if you need it....sorry if it sounds long-winded, it's not really :D

OKAY! Done all this: so now I just have to wait and see how well I manage to keep the system clean:D .

Many, many thanks to you all: and dazed, I will keep that linky in mind if I find that something even nastier is going on with my puter - but I think I may actually have cleaned it up very nicely now (with a LOT of help from you all on MSE) so thank you again.
