The free version does not allow me to use that software to remove these. I cannot find the Spyware Bot on Geeks - do I just download that from a Google Search - as I assume that that one will let me remove all the threats etc., from the Computer - or do I use MB again to clean it up - and get shot of the flipping AVG and find something a bit more robust to keep the system clean.
I know I surf around a lot - and I think that was why BIL put AVG on as it is supposed to check sites on Google for threats and it gives me a pretty little green tick that says site is safe (doesn't seem to have worked though does it:D ).
Think I may well try downloading and saving Avast - disconnecting from internet and removing AVG and running Avast (I assume that is how one would do it so that you are not totally unprotected whilst changing software?)
Am beginning not to like puters!
Course, I do understand that they are fine if not in the hands of an idiot like me:o
moggy - if spyware doctor didn't allow you to remove the threats, you downloaded the wrong version....you need spyware doctor starter edition or light version (can't remember exactly what they called it)...but on the majorgeeks listing, it'll be the one which, in the info strip next to the product name, will not show a cost next to it..........download the correct version and it WILL remove the threats...I've been usig it on 6 comps now for a good while with no problems.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

OK Guys! I'm back!
. Sorry for the delay in getting back, Lord knows what I did the other day: but I froze my puter up and could not get it going at all. BIL sorted that bit, but I have spent the evening so far cleaning it up (and he told me it was clean:eek: )! Maybe he is a hacker when not working with the flaming things:D and the source of my problems:rotfl: ) Have given it a going over with Spybot and am in the process of finishing up a scan following installation and clean-up with Spyware Doctor (I finally managed to find the free version - didn't realise you had to use the Geeks link sites in US:rolleyes:
- talk about dumb:D )
Where do you get CCleaner from? I reckon it should go for it with everything - although I have to admit that since I cleared all the nasties that Spybot found, and then got SD to get rid of the others (that Zango is a stubborn little sod isn't it?) everything seems to be working quicker?
Still trying to make my mind up whether to try Avira or go back to Avast
it's like shopping for shoes:o too much choice.
I hear what you are saying about Firefox - but I don't find it an easy server to use - downloaded it once before, but only used it once or twice. May give that another go though as a friend tells me it is great once you get used to it.
Will run another MB scan later on, and hijack it to here - and would be really grateful if you can tell me if you think there is anything else I need to do or get rid of.:o
Many thanks for all your help so far - I suspect that some of the kids games sites will not work anymore since I have deleted the adware and stuff (:D oh, I will be a popular mummy) but I shall make them delete any that are not working properly, and they can make do with the ones that are not a threat."there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

No probs moggy...glad to help a fellow welshperson

Yeah, post any H-T/MBAM logs if you need someone to give them the once-over..sure some kind soul will do that
Oh, BTW, I used to use iMesh a few years ago, it's similar to limewire and the like, as in being full of nasties....needless to say I stopped using it.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Hi GJ, thanks a lot - but I think I ought to confess that I am only one of those damned Saes incomers:o - although I have been here 18 years, and both my kids were born here so perhaps that helps:o .
Actually, according to MBAM says that I have no threats:j , and so does Spyware Doctor and also SpyBot:j - so am feeling very much better about things now, and don't think I need to post logs.
I am not going to be very popular with my DS1 when I tell him I am going to delete iMesh:eek: . He has downloaded masses of music on there - I hope I can find a way of transferring that to a file before I delete the site, or he may just leave home.
Thanks again for all your help. You've been great and I am now going to just download CCleaner from Riks post and then tomorrow I shall give it all a clean up with that - and make a note to keep running scans (cos I am hopeless about that:o ) regularly in the hope that I can keep the system clean.
Certainly going much better than it has for ages at the moment:j"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -
Many thanks for that Rik - system is running so much better now! I have also quite enjoyed learning how to sort things out a bit for myself - cos BIL never tells me much about what I have done wrong or what the system has "caught" and just makes me feel stupid like people do when they know a lot about something and you know nothing:mad: .
You've all been so helpful - many, many, thanks."there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -
No worries moggy
Glad your all sorted
(Maybe you'll now be one step AHEAD of BIL in the future
) :idea:0
