Income Support Paid Into Old Account - No Money!

I'm in a similar situation, I live miles away from most of my family and can't call on them for help in an emergency. I do have my Inlaws here, but they aren't exactly flush and they help me out as much as they can already (we go there for sunday lunch each week and the kids go for their tea twice a week) It's hard .I'm a lot calmer than I was earlier, it doesn't help when I have no family here to fall back on and borrow from but we should be ok just.0 -
My illness and my husband been my carer doesn't stop me from being a damn good mother thank you.
Maybe you are good parents, but you can't afford another child. Can you not see this?
Being parents includes providing financially for the child not just farming that part out to the taxpayers.0 -
Boppy, I've read back on your previous thread over how the overdraft occurred.
You admitted you had forgotton Wilkinson's hadn't taken the money out on 23 October and was expecting charges around 7 November. It would have been better to change banks then and inform IS office then rather than wait until 31 October. Never mind, too late now.
Payment is IS offices error - paid to wrong place but cannot recall due to the account still being open.
Charges are £98 for 2 overpayments - they should only charge you £12 plus interest on the amount overdrawn (less than £30). The quicker you complain, the quicker the charges will get reduced.
You have water & TV coming out next week. When did you inform them of the new account and have they wrote confirming they will take the payment out of your new account next week? If not, you need to phone them as chances are they may not have been able to change the source of collection and possibly it could come out of the Halifax account.
Have you claimed the sure-start maternity grant yet (not sure how far on you are)? I never claimed this as I didn't realise, but I can say that despite having no baby items whatsoever it did not cost anywhere near £500 to buy the necessaries. Having a young child already means you will have less to buy and can use some to sort the offending account out and have a little set aside for emergencies.0 -
OP came here for SUPPORT not for judgement and arent we all on this site for the same reason? to get support and ideas on how to manage in tough times- reading this thread is dissapointing and as for scrutinising peoples previous posts.... its like a bloody lynch mob sometimes:mad:0

Perhaps you would like to explain how reading previous posts creates a lynch mob reply??????
Better still, why not offer help yourself instead of judging everyone else???0 -

Thanks for replying, reason we didn't inform of new bank account until 29th was because we couldn't get an appointment to open a new account if that makes sense, income support new we had got a new bank account because of charges. I didn't realise the charges should've only been £12, that would've been easier to contend with, I will speak to Halifax about that although we are going to start claiming them back.
Water and TV we thankfully are paying over the counter so to speak, not by direct debit so we're ok there.
Sure Start we can't claim until early next year and your right we have hardly anything to buy which is handy, we use reuseable nappies rather than filling landfills and we have all these from birth (although my son couldn't use them after 1 as they didn't agree with his skin.)0 -
I mentioned the delay in changing the account in case your water/TV were on direct debit and you had told them at the same time - should have linked it together really.
Technically banks can charge more than £12, but they must be able to justify why it costs them more than that the OFT ruled as reasonable. I'm not with the halifax, but I know my own bank did reduce the charges to £12 upon the ruling. I'm sure there will be more information around the site some-where - possibly mixed in with posts for reclaiming past charges of years ago.0 -
£12 is the OFT maximum recommended charge relating to credit cards. Not current bank accounts. Nothing has been decided on current account charges, not even the issue of lawfulness.0

get your income support paid to you by giro then you just cash it at the post office.0

I want what the government says we need to live on,
No as I said my partner can't work because he is my carer. We made a baby because we wanted oneMy illness and my husband been my carer doesn't stop me from being a damn good mother thank you.
Firstly, the tax payer gave you what the Government said you need to live on. Not their fault that it was swallowed entirely by your unauthorised overdraft and the resultant charges, is it?
Secondly, no one suggested that your 'illness' will stop you from being a 'damn good mother' - although depression so severe that you need a full time carer is certainly going to impact on your mothering abilities.
No doctor in the world would advocate a pregnancy when you allegedly have such severe depression that not only do you need to cease work and claim benefits but your 'husband' also needs to move in specifically to care for both you and your child. With the risk of PND being so high, there is no way either of you can argue that this is the right course of action - and the best way for you to start to get well again. Does your 'husband' really have your best interests at heart? If he did he would not have willingly impregnanted you. Not to mention the fact that you cannot afford to feed and clothe the child you already have - much less another one.
Have you still got the PS3 you were determined not to sell that earlier this year? (after you had started your benefits claim).
Finally, I find the fact that you are having a dig about other people's budgeting skills hilarious!0
