Just been to garage, it is the camshaft! They are ringing vauxhall to see if they will make a goodwill payment.
Does all this mean the camshaft could have gone because it was supposed to have been recalled and wasn't?!!0 -
Also what do people think would be a fair percentage for a goodwill payment?0

Just had a call back. They say they'll only pay 60% and it will still cost us over a £1000. Not happy at all.
Any advice please. They say that's all they can offer!0 -

Have you established if your particular car should have been recalled for this problem?Called Green Flag and he was fairly sure the camshaft had snapped but was astonished as the car is only an 05 reg with 24,000 miles on the clock. It was bought new from a vauxhall dealership and has been serviced regularly at the same dealership, the last service only being last month. Trouble is the warranty ran out in August.
For the camshaft to break like that, when serviced to the book by the dealership, they should accept that it is a manufacturing or design error and pay the whole bill.

Doesn't look like it should have been recalled.
Called Trading Standards though who think there is case under Sales Act for premature failure. Just waiting for service manager to get back to me!
She said go for full payment too.
Thanks for link to Watchdog may very well do that!
Thanks!0
