Camshaft snap after 24,000 miles 05 reg
Hi there,
It's my first post so hope this in the right area. It's about a Corsa Breeze 1.2 petrol.
Fairly worried about the cost of repair for my Corsa and hope someone can offer some advice. I was driving on the motorway at 70 when there was a noise and then the oil light and eps light came on and the engine died. Only just managed to get it onto the hard shoulder in time or it could have been very very nasty indeed.
Called Green Flag and he was fairly sure the camshaft had snapped but was astonished as the car is only an 05 reg with 24,000 miles on the clock. It was bought new from a vauxhall dealership and has been serviced regularly at the same dealership, the last service only being last month. Trouble is the warranty ran out in August.
Just called a friend who is also astonished and thinks it has to be a manufacturing fault and Vauxhall should pay some or all of the cost of having it repaired as he thinks it could cost around £2500 for a new engine. This is a pretty terrifying prospect!
Can anyone offer any thoughts/advice as to what to say to Vauxhall, does anyone think I have a case for asking Vauxhall to contribute?
Thank you!

Before any speculation you should actually find out what has happened.0

Warranty ended in August so just outside!
Green Flag man did look at in the dark so fingers crossed it's something else but he seemed pretty sure and pretty shocked too!0 -
Erm.... are we talking about the cambelt or the camshaft, I very much doubt they would know it was the shaft without an engine stripdown.0

Are you sure it's not the timing chain that's snapped? As they often get to about 30,000 miles before they go all rattly. And yes Vauxhall are aware of this problem and issueed recalls on effected Corsa's. Maybe talk to them before anyone pays anything...0

More likely to be the belt.
Vauxhall aren't know for 'goodwill' gestures but i'd certainly approach them. Cambelt's are usually good till 40,000 miles per service agreement. In reality, you should get 80K+
Nevertheless, if it is a belt snap at 24k, they should do...something.0 -

Vauxhall recall ref: UK05R24
Just stole this from another site.
Anyway, thought the Corsa was on a chain...?0 -
Nope he definitely said it was the camshaft, it's written on the breakdown sheet too.
There was a bump when we were driving, like driving over a bump or like something had gone at the front. Then the oil light, eps and battery light came on and it lost all engine power. The engine then wouldn't start again and made a very unhealthy sound. Don't know if that helps.
Did Vauxhal recall this model of Corsa? It's a 1.2 ecotec engine twinport 05 plate?
Thanks!0
