while we wait... just quick question.. i found this issue so easy to deal with.. this seems to be a little long winded.. I've just looked back over the thread... I dont understand why the Combofix method took pref over the way i delt with the problem?

  • Because Malwarebytes froze the system.

I have to agree with you that normally Malwarebytes is more than capable in removing this problem.

My guess is that there is something else on the system causing problems.

Worse case scenario Combofix removes nothing but the log it will produce will give us a greater look and possibly identify why malwarebytes won't run

If the OP opens program files--- the AV2009 folder will need to be deleted because there is no uninsatll program.

  • Kev1n3 - I'll make sure to delete that program file when Combofix has finished, thank you.

It's *still* running right now, it says it has completed stage_32, and hasn't done anything else for about the last 20 minutes. I've made sure not to touch it whilst it's running, but now I'm beginning to wonder if it's given up! Hopefully it will carry on and give me a log report. I'll post that up if/when it finishes.

  • True - a crude method of removing a programme I'm sure you will agree.

I don't think that this is the cause of Malwarebytes freezing the system thou.

    Let it run, please.

kevin , to avoid clutttering up the original posters thread with questions can you start a new thread for your questions and I'll get the BG for this section to move your posts over.

makes the thread very hard for the original poster to follow

    thanks ;)

it was you that crashed in here .. i'm sure this issue would have been resolved much earlier if you hadnt have barged in. what you should have done is wait and just left it to someone whe has recently had the very same problem.. i didnt switch off any antiviruses.. i was done and dusted in less than 5 mins.. seems to me that you have really complicated this by trying to be smart..
