  • I've re-started. Combofix still isn't starting up. I get the run box up, click run and then there's nothing. When I installed the recovery console, the instructions said that Combofix should tell me that it's been installed, it didn't do this though.
    I must be doing something wrong, but I can't for the life of me figure it out.
    Everyday I am asked to be a magician, in a world where magic does not exist.
  • Click the Windows 'Start' button > Select 'Run' - then copy/paste this into the run box & click OK: (assuming ComboFix.exe is on the desktop)

    "%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe"
  • Try the above if that still does not work delete the current copy of combofix and try this;

    Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it. Save it to your desktop.

  • Using the run command isn't working either, so I will re-download now. Do I have to re-download the recovery console? Or should that be alright as it is?

    Avira Rescue CD .exe file version

    Avira Rescue CD .iso file version

    Guide

    Once created, you need to place it in the drive, turn off the PC and turn it on again. Whilst booting this time, wait until you see Boot from CD and then hit Enter.

    You can wait to see if RS finds a solution before proceeding. Too many cooks and all that...
  • Finally! Combofix now says that it is preparing to run. It's been preparing itself for 10 minutes now, is that normal that it takes a while to actually start?

    Forgot to mention; Just double-click on the rescue system package to burn it to a CD/DVD.
