OS Daily thread - Friday 7th November

Hi, this is the OS Daily thread for Friday 7th November, 2008. It is an 'over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start does just as well.
Hi everyone!
God what a stressful day yesterday was - Motobility really need their heads banging together - one office doesn't know what the other is doing it seems..
. Anyway, we have our car back with the warning light still lit and my poor OH had to rush out and fill the hire car back up with petrol.
Squiggly! - Missed you honey!
sistercas - thanks honey and as for dough balls, yes, I just put a blob of garlic butter in the middle of a small round of dough and then make them into balls.
Taplady - I am so sorry to hear about your friend. I am in a similar position with my friend in America, so know what you are going through, and I know your support and friendship will mean the world to her. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.
catowen - I love reading your posts, so write all you like! and Happy Birthday to your gran.
Bethebee - hope your DB2 is Ok
Beemuzed, that is great news!!
N9eav - Ok, are you fishing or just missing? Either way, hope you are having fun, whatever you are doing.
I am sat eating crunchy nut cornflakes, I woke up really hungry. My friend in America has just told me he has put some genuine beefjerky in the post for me, so that should be an interesting eating experience when it gets here!! I never quite understood the whole, dried out chewy meat thing..
Doing some baking this afternoon I hope and the final lot of washing til Sunday night. Am trying to persuade the OH that buying an Oxtail is a great idea for the slow cooker. I have a fab recipe but I used to cook it and he has never seen a 'raw' oxtail!
We have almost finished clearing out the junk room/OHs office ready for my friend to move in on Saturday. It is going to mean big changes having someone else here so I am getting a bit nervous.
to everyone who needs one today

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Morning Diva.
I am not missing, I just had a busy week what with court and all. It has been a fairly good week really.
The mortgage rate cut was excellent for me. I got a new tracker deal at .64% above the base with Nationwide on 30th Sept. Since then there has been a 2% base cut, so I am now saving almost £100 a month on my payments. :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j
So much to jump up and down about.
In court my case we put 2 heroin dealers in prison for a total of almost 8 years between them., so more  to cheer about. SCUM of the earth drug dealers. The cherry on the top was winning the sweepstake for guessing the sentence. Only £6 but to coin a phrase "every little helps"
Fireworks party tonight for the family and my brothers and his kids etc. Hot dogs and home made soup. Day off today, so I will build a fire and chops some logs.
So not a bad week..... CheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning All

Morning everyone
what awful weather this morning! I can hear the rain lashing against the windows, even the cat didn`t want to go out and she`s not usually bothered by the rain at all. She`s currently sat behind the curtains looking outside so as soon as it eases off she will want to go.
I`ve just emptied the wm and bm so just the dw to go and then i shall be on my second cuppa, i seem to be waking earlier and earlier each day so i`m feeling more tired early on each night. Tea tonight should be spag bol and i`m hoping to make a cake in a short while. Today is huge clean up day as we have visitors this afternoon, that will just leave the ironing which can be done tomorrow
I`m so sorry to hear that many people have had bad news, Bargain_Rzl - how awful for your colleagues family, even when something happens to someone who is not really close it still has an effect.
Taplady - Enjoy your afternoon with your friend, your being there for her will mean such a lot. So many things can be done today with the advances in medicine and i have my fingers crossed for your friend.
Catowen - Happy Birthday to your Nan, 100 years is a fantastic achievement.
:bdaycake:
Beemuzed - Congratulations on paying off your mortgage, it must be a wonderful feeling.
PenPin ((((HUGS)))) for you today.
Diva - I hope that your knees are better today, i`m also sending you a huge thankyou for posting your piccalilli recipe, i made it yesterday and it is absolutely stunning! thankyou very much!
Well i can hear the kettle screaming "boil me" from in the kitchen so off i go to oblige.
Have a good day folks.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -

Lunch is leftovers for me and ham sandwiches for the kids with muffins and fruit. OH has chese, beansprout and onion sandwiches (yum).
Supper is teriyaki salmon, rice and stir-fried veg (including beansprouts)

Good Morning All
 Many Happy Returns to Scuzz, Suesiesue & Catowens Nan:beer:
Yesterday went as expected. Today will be hard I think as I am going to Nans flat to sort out some stuff. Will be very strange being there without her. Am picking up an old writing bureau and some photos of the children we had given her over the years. Dont know where I shall put the bureau yet - will need to have a change around.
Other than that not sure what else will be doing though hope to hoover and wash the downstairs floors. Its very wet outside and the dogs have been in and out. Dont think will do any washing today - its very mild so dont need heating on so it wont dry.
Think will be spag bol for dinner.
Have a great Fri
x
Oh and N9eav thats good news about the drug dealers.0 -
Morning all,
Twink - I read your post as Susiesue & Scuzz both being 100... lol!!!! Birthday greetings to both - have a great day!!!
Diva, missed being hereNot quite sure where the days went this week... Hope you are feeling better after your bumps & bruises from last week? Could I please have your recipe for the oxtail - it's something I'd like to try one day. How much do oxtails cost (roughly) from butchers?
N9eav, the sweepstake made me chuckle too! My tracker is 0.14% above base rate, and since I took my mortgage out a year ago my payments have now gone down a total of £200 a month (or will do when this takes effect). Hopefully by the end of next year I will be able to get a good deal when it is time to remortgage. Means other things will get paid off faster.
Beemuzed, congratulations on paying off your mortgage too!! And good to see you...
Redruby :hello: My mother tells me "new bags on Monday"!!! lol
EssexGirl - (((hugs))) for you today, sad as it is you will probably find all sorts of memories coming back that you'd forgotten as you find things.
Day off for me too - study time officially, but have my "annual review" at the bank this morning (8 months after the last one...) They obviously clocked the student loan/bursary reaching my account:rolleyes: . And I've been busy cancelling & downgrading stuff (so now a free account rather than one I pay for, etc). Let's see who wins today then, lol!!!!!
Might do an omelette for lunch, not had one for aaages. And dinner will be a mini chicken roast joint thing I got YS from Asda for just over £1 instead of £3.50 (or something like that). Also a YS pack of baby white & red cabbage.
Will probably hoover through & get a wash on too.
Have a good day all(((((hugs))))) for all those needing them.

And with that off to work - byeeeeeeeeeeeee0 -
