  • Mashed potato maybe with a bit of gravy, soft and can be made a little sloppier so easier to eat.

Different varieties of soup would change it up a bit, porridge, yoghurt, pureed fruit mixed in would make a good dessert.

I'm sure there's plenty more but right now for the life of me I can't think of them!

Slimfast drink and/or Complan powder dissolved in milk - the vanilla one tastes delicious - at least you'd be getting your vitamins.

When my daughter had her tongue pierced  I had to fill her up with soft food. How about macoroni in sauce (smaller lumps than normal pasta), baked and flaked fish, custard, blacmange, rice pudding, mousse, milk shake, jelly, fruit sorbets, baked apple with cinnamon (not the skin). I found variety added interest and of course you do need to make sure you have enough calories each day. Hope you heal soon - :)

    Thank you all.

It wasn't a planned tooth extraction, so all my meal plans for this week are having to change. Just after some ideas as I had visions of living off soup and mash.

  • If you cook stews you can always blend them and make a thick puree. Stewed fruit and custard? Angle Delight, rice pudding or cold soups (ok puree'd salads!) which are lovely and fresh. Milk shakes, ice cream.

Anything you feel you can tolerate. Remember if you have antibiotics to check the instructions, some are with food, some aren't etc. Talk to a pharmacist re painkillers. Often they will advise if you can take paracetamol with ibuprofen or similar, but of course that depends on each individual and any current medications or conditions that may be present.

Hope you are feeling a whole lot better really soon. xx
    Put the kettle on. ;)
  • My friend is very poorly with gastritious (sorry if that is spelt wrong) and cannot keep much down. It's also not going to go away anytime soon. I would like to buy the ingredients or cook something she could eat. She can keep down bananas, ordinary tea and sometimes crackers. Anybody have any suggestions.

Very difficult, if she is not feeling well she may be extra picky about eating, either because being in pain puts her off her food or because your tastes tend to change a bit when you are ill.

Probably the plainer the better - a nice short plain biscuit, or simple sponge cake. If she can take dairy, something like a rice pudding.

Poached chicken is very good for tender tums, pehaps a nice light chicken broth?

She will probably know what she wants to eat/drink, I know when I had periods of terrific pain I just tended to sip water and eat digestives when I could, it was very frustrating for family who cooked lovely food that I just could not face eating.

Sorry, not sure how helpful that is!

  • Jelly is a classic food for situations like this. Ice lollies, made with low acid juice may help her build up her fluids. Very very cold beverages are frequently easier to keep down. A very plain stock (more like a broth) with some water buscuits may work, especially if she is holding down tea. Homemade bread (of a very plain white variety) for dry toast might also work.
