Hot toddies are delicious made with drambuie or any other whisky based liqueur. My DH decided to give me a hot toddie one morning when I came home from night shift feeling positively flu like. I went to bed rather tipsy as I think he was generous with the drambuie :rotfl:
I woke up and felt soooo much better though. If you don't like whisky much then the drambuie is rather delicious0 -
My late ma-in-law always swore by boiled lemonade for a tickly throat taken with a couple of paracetamols to bring down your temprature .
Me I have been very lucky since last year when I had my first 'flu jab ,touch wood I haven't had a sniffle at all.
I had my second jab last week so I am hoping to get through the winter again without a cold. because of my low immune system owing to chemo I was told to avoid anywhere busy, shops, crowded places ect and it worked for me, but then I am retired, so I can choose when to go to the shops when its quiet. My family also stay away if they have a cold or cough so I keep relatively healthy.
Sorry your feeling poorly ,spoil yourself with some hot buttered toast and a warm drink and go to bed and stay there till you feel better0 -
I second "listen to your body and eat what it tells you to". Something plain and a little of what you fancy often helps lift the spirits if nothing else. I go for toast, rice pudding, egg sarnies or a poached egg. I'm just getting over flu (and i mean proper flu not a cold) and the last 2 weeks have been awful, stuck in bed unable to get out. If you're entitled to a flue jab - get one, the type of flu that is doing the rounds in my area is NASTY!0

When I am ill I think Lucozade helps (don't know exact spelling sorry!) and ice cream (daffy as it sounds).
Also hot Heinz tomato soup, I would say poached eggs but the last time I was ill I tried to make these and wasted three eggs, the first egg I forgot to turn the gas on so it was horrid and watery, the last two I dropped! In the end I gave up and just went to bed! Scrambled eggs are nice as is a nice baked potato. They are not as hard to make as they sound - 10 mins in the microwave, take out, bang on the counter top a few times and then stick in a pre-heated oven for 10 to twenty mins depending how crispy you like them.
Anything hot helps, when ill I crave cups of hot, sweet, milky tea and drink it by the bucketful! Though the constant trips to the toilet after don't help when I am needing my sleepys!0 -

We knew we were properly ill when we were younger when our mum gaves us toast with butter &marmite cut up into small squares with a mug of hot orange.
Scrambled egg can be good if you're unwell, but it's one to be wary of if you're feeling sick.
Milky porridge, mashed potato - anything that doesn't require outrageous effort, like y'know, actually having to chew stuff.
If you're really off your food, then it's the 'sticky bun' diet - basically if it sounds good, eat it - as long as you're getting some energy don't worry what it consists of. Just having something in your stomach can ease that sick-y feeling when you haven't eaten.
Don't forget the lucozade - yes, it's just sugared water, but there is something comforting and familiar about that orange fizz which stains everything it comes into contact with. Consider it the placebo effect if nothing else.0 -
I like hot home made lemonade, using cut up fresh lemons (if you have them if not bottled lemon juice) or Campbells tomato soup with slices of bread spead with thick butter dipped in0

keep it simple - you wont feel like cooking anything complicated anyway. toast, soup etc is good - i hope you feel better soon.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

I had a friend years ago who was told by her doctor when she was getting over glandular fever that if you don't fancy anything much to eat just have some chocolate!! Sounds good to me!
More seriously, I think you can't beat soup when you're feeling inder the weather, especially tinned tomato.
Hope you feel better soon. xxx0
