  • Hello ladies,

I was thinking of making a gardening hamper for my mums birthday. Was going to add
gardening gloves, trowel & fork set, packets of seeds, garden twine, slate plant stakes, a mug with some shortbread and handcream.

I would like to make up/add a nice book for her - a planting journal so that she can make a note of the plants for the year etc. Can one buy this type of journal or is this a diy thing? Any tips or ideas very much appreciated.

  • If you can find it somewhere there is a Jamie Oliver one that was free with his latest book or is quite cheap in the shops now, has some great pictures and some hints and tips on cooking veggies and is divided into months. Though if it is ornamental rather than vegetable/fruit growing then feel free to ignore me :)

Thank you for the speedy reply. It's ornamental, mums into flowers and shrubs - I'm the one into veggies and fruit so I'm off to look for me! lol

With regards to your fathers hamper what exactly do you mean by 'hard'?
Can you add a book on cheese (perhaps a voucher), some crackers, chocolate cigars.

And has anyone looked at the 75% off selfridges hampers - my, the girlie night in would be lovely even at £250.00 unfortunatly after looking in my purse I'm £233.00 short :rotfl:

So I have all the bits and pieces to go with wine for my Dad's birthday (opener, stopper, cooler, airer) and I now have a tesco hamper that seems like the perfect size for it. I now have only one problem, how the heck do I get it to him without having to handdeliver it, it will weigh a ton :)
Still up for any more ideas of what to add to make it look a little less 'hard'

Is the option for hand delivering it ok? I mean do you live close by? ... if you don't want to hand deliver then you could parcel it up and send it y courier? parcel2go is about £7 on a 2-4 day delivery?

The book I think Sian means is Jamie Oliver Journal ... it was reduced before christmas and I picked mine up for 99p, it is RRP £7.99 but if I had paid that much I would have been mad as it is basically a pretty notebook with a few tips in but mostly blank lined pages for you to write yourself. I got one for OH for christmas

Thanks Aggie, I was thinking everything is a little boxy as all the wine things are boxed compared to the hampers I did for Christmas that had more soft things in like t shirts or teddies

Thanks Rusty. I'm looking for it on the net at the mo and can't find it :o.
Can you tell me what the cover looks like, colour etc.? Where did you get yours please for such a bargain price? Looked on Jamies site and its only mentioned in the forum.

    Many thanks

Can you take things out of boxes to go into your hamper? I have done this with a few things before and it helped the items to look like a complete present rather than a selection of things. Sorry, does that make sense? Realise you may not want to take things out of boxes or it may not be viable, just a thought!

Thought of another idea - add a teddy!

agatha - if you can't find what you're looking for this might be of some use. You can download it and put it in some kind of book form

I'm doing a gardening hamper for a birthday in March and looking for some miniature gardening tools -the sort you can get for indoor plants....I'm putting some seeds in the hamper and the miniature tools are ideal - got some myself years ago.
    Can't seem to find any

Hi Aggie, I picked it up from WHSmiths but had a look on their website and it is no longer there.

Amazon says that they have some through the marketplace they say used and are 1p + £2.75 shipping, although I don't know if used means they have writing in them?

Here is a pic I just took of the one we have.
