I want to do one for my dad and step-mum. My step mum works as a visual merchandiser for channel and givenchy so gets lots of smellies and freebies for the both of them. They are not sentimental in any sense and dont have pictures about. They are both very career minded my dad has his own company and is a workaholic. They dont have any hobbies really apart from caravanning and their dogs, Labradors. They enjoy a drink but this is all i ever get them usually, my dad a bottle of JD and my step mum wine gifts.

I haven't got a fortune to spend, they only thing i have come up with so far has been the retro sweets in a toolbox for my dad. My SM hasn't got a sweet tooth.

I could really do with some ideas of you lovely lot!

    Thanks

How about a book? The AA do a Good Pub Guide. Handy for when you are out and about on your travels and fancy somewhere nice for a good meal/break.

3tabbycats - thanks. I have looked at that one and there's some nice ones on there but as mum is totally immobile I thought it would be easier for the carers if she had a wrap/shawl type.
Anyway, variations on googling and I found some !!!! :T Daily Telegraphe, Daily Mirror, Guardian.....they have these offers on every so often and they've for them..........they're plain red or navy (the american site were lovely floral paterns) and I thought if I got Mum a red one it would be a bit festive and give her a bit of colour - she always has been a bit pale.
    So, problem solved thank goodness.
Now need to find some christmas pj's for baby grandson -can't see me going out of town shopping for a while with this cough which has turned to sore throat.............never ending...........

Ooo! You found one while I was searching! Well done! i must say the 'twilight gift company' link I sent seems to have a lot of good ideas for people in your position. Website looks a bit cheap tho but it may be hlpful for others in the future!

spugzbunny - it was a case of permutations of fleece/cape/.shawl etc. Twilight site does look good...........loads of stuff I could have got from there for Mum a couple of years ago when she wasn't as bad as she is now.
    Thanks:j

  • Hi mary,

I know you have set your heart on the bed jacket, but what about a couple of extras? what about a couple of hand warmers and maybe some bed socks, or those slippers socks that are in primark for £1. You can never have too many socks and especially nice toasty ones. The hand warmers i was never into them until last week and i think they are fab. I thought after submerging them in water i'd burn myself but nope, it was totally dry within seconds.

just a little idea, may not be any use, but just a couple of thoughts for the 'warm' factor.

chillin_nutta - thanks for the idea - I did have bedsocks in mind as Mum does wear them.........been nice to get some to match the fleece wrap but not sure she'd want red socks ! So, I'll have to have a scoot around and see what comes up.
Can't see me getting to Primark - its 20 miles away and with this chest infection/sore throat I'm not even considering it but I'll find some from somewhere.
Don't think Mum would cope with the hand warmers........she couldn't do them herself as she's no feeling in one hand. The fleece wrap I'm getting has pockets anyway...............nice idea though had she been better than she is.
    Thanks for your help:j

Loving the hamper ideas. Have just been to B&M and got a load of foodie treats for MIL and FIL to do an upmarket hamper.

Got Dutchy originals cordials, Mary Berry Jam, mustards etc. Any ideas on the best place to get a proper wicker hamper type basket?

Also would love to make some "Friendship tea" for a friend who will be on her own over xmas. Found the tea at john lewis and would like to make this type of bag and poem but for proper tea which she would prefer. http://www.johnlewis.com/230449096/Product.aspx

Any ideas how I can do the poem and get a bag to put normal tea/ tea bags in and also what else could I include, saw a heated teddy at b&M and thought could do a label saying a nice warm hug from me and also a book or something

    Any ideas very welcome.

    Many thanks
