  • As phunkles said they had some pirates chests in my local home bargains, they were about £7 but they were dressing up boxes in a chest shape and had dressing up outfits in there maybe that would be something you could consider??

thanks rusty. I did think about looking in Julian Graves next time I am in town. I have bought a selection of chilli nuts, seeds, etc in packets for OH and my first thought was to put them in a box with several compartments. however...they have sold out in woolies and not sure where else sells them in Durham. so my next thought was little jars. will look in Durham next week.

Can I just asl where you got your chilli nuts etc from? OH loves nuts and I have got him macademias which were in the sweet compartment but I could do something similar with nuts and could also do the same for my FIL.

    Thankyou in advance.

Oooh and whilst I am on ... is Durham big for shopping? I have only been once but that was to go to the passport office but saw it looked quite busy! ... wasn't sure if it would be worth taking a trip up after christmas to have a nosey about

I got the chilli nuts etc from the Jamie Oliver website. I had an email from them with a £5 off voucher (not sure why!) and free delivery so thought i would get some.

Durham is not very big and being a small student town is geared towards them. we have lots of coffee shops, designer clothes shops and 3 outdoor/walking shops!! can always meet you for a coffee if you fancy a trip down but shops aren't brilliant!

  • tilly-roo: I know this isn't the towel you were after, but saw this and thought it might be good substitute if you wanted something personalised for your bro

I know my OH has a Titleist towel and it's always just covered in mud!

I'm also hoping someone may have some ideas for my FIL: he's going back to work soon after a couple of years of operations and physio (to cut a long story short, he now has new legs) and although he is sports mad, thought I'd try do a "Back to work" themed hamper? Maybe get him a mug, mousemat, nice pen...? Ideas would be most welcome! Really stuck on this, and it's the only one I have left to do - late I know but can't get shopping except weekends!

Why dont you get him a nice mug and a small jar or sachet of his favourite hot choco/coffee/tea and then add a bag of his fave choco's / sweets to much on at work ,a nice photo frame with a pic of the grankids or kids or what ever , a mouse mat that can be personlized in asdas for a few pounds or just a normal one , a nice pen , those are all i can think of for the moment.

Aw thanks so much! I bought him a towel in the end but I've saved that in my favs, might use it for his birthday next year, he'd love it!

Ooooh back to work.. how about the things you've mentioned plus some nice things to help him relax/get a good nights sleep.. some nice bath stuff (I'm thinking radox muscle soak..), some nice coffee if he's a coffee fan, a mini caffitiere (when I worked in an office I couldn't stand instant coffee day in day out so bought myself one of these!), I also saw one of these and was thinking of buying one for my dad... http://www.101gear.com/product.php?prid=211339&gaw=fro01 for those days that he has to work late though I don't know the nature of your FIL's job obviously. I'll have another think!
  • Thanks Jess and tilly-roo! Spotted a nice pen set today in Quality Save, and one of those metal flask mugs things that will keep his brew warm! Great idea about personalised mousemat, I'll dig out a pic and get myself to Asda!

He'll be going back to a desk job (he's mainly wheelchair bound but can walk short distances) so sweets, coffee etc are all good! I just wanted something he can use positively - like a "here's to going back to work" as he's a grafter and has been desperate for a long time not to be stuck in the house.

All suggestions very much appreciated, thanks!

Edit - forgot to mention Rusty, spotted chili nuts today in both Wilkos and Morrisons, HTH!

Just got back from delivering boxes and hampers to my son, his girlfriend and the grandchildren. Baby grandson was too busy running amok to take much notice but the older ones were thrilled to bits...............I did have to add to teenage grandson that it was only odds and ends in the boxes and he wasn't to think 'crikes, nanny's lost the plot' at some of them.............to which he replied.............'I knew you'd lost the plot ages ago'.......................lol How typical............................too much like his dad methinks.................lol:rotfl:

Wondering if I've made a bit of an error with sons box...........have done him a retro sweet box...........now he tells me he needs some expensive dental work done !!!!! Not to worry............not saying too much about the journey except to say OH's specs have broken and he had to drive back without them plus he tripped and fell out of the car when we got there and is having to hobble !! Next year I'm thinking maybe I'll send cheques in the post ......................lol
