MONEY MORAL DILEMMA: Should you come clean about the extra refund?

i'd definitely keep it, the voucher was probably only for a certain time anyway so you couldn't use it again for something else!First win (October) - Apple Ipod off a radio competition
November - new nokia mobile phone, £250 electrical voucher (both radio comptitions)
March - 2 cinema tickets to see 27 dresses (radio again!)

You have a choice. Take the extra refund. (It's not yours), or come clean?
Honesty is the correct way. It sets a good examples. It helps to restore trust and makes you trustworthy. Gives you creditability. If anyone cannot see the tremendous advantages for yourself, then have a very deep think about it. I guarantee you wont starve to death or suffer deprivation of any worth if you are honest.
Steal the the extra refund and if you have any self respect, then risk loosing it. You could get found out. You might loose out on a benefit if someone knows your greed. Anyhow, the most important person in your life knows you are dishonest - yourself.
Whether it's a small shop or large, a good one or one that gives bad service or known to be dishonest themselves, let nothing persuede you not to be honest.0 -
OK I have just read a lot of posts about feeling guilty, knowing it's wrong etcetera etc and i am wondering if anyone is actually reading the scenario correctly!
It doesn't say you're lying about taking it back or saying there is something wrong with it etc, it says you do not like it and you are returning it, I presume using that very reason,
and there are loads of store charters out there that say they'll take it back if you are not one hundred percent happy no questions asked (some require unopened goods some don't).
I now own the goods and they are totally honestly mine.
The deal has been done, they've got the 20% off voucher and I've got the goods.
What I do with them and how much I get for them is up to me!
I am now selling the product they sold to me back to them for the same price they sold it to me for, except now there is no 20% off voucher involved and I am using a receipt issued by them as "a credit note" to ask them to repurchase the goods for the previously agreed amount and if they haven't got some kind of flagging system to bring the fact that they gave me 20% off to the attention of the sales assistant then it's not legally my responsibility to do so and I should not have to believe that I should feel guilty about this just because others have been indoctrinated that way!
We've got enough of a "Nanny-state" in this country as it is without joe public running around correcting all the profit and loss probability scenarios of businesses as well as bailing out the overpaid fat cat bankers and financiers.
It is an honest thing to do because I have done exactly this
a number of times with different companies, one being Tesco and another Sainsbury's and after I had pointed out the fact that I had used a discount voucher I was told that legally they could do either
a) return the amount paid + reissue another 20% discount voucher
OR
b) refund the full amount; it is totally up to them and their choice and every shop can have a differing policy!
so now I just let them do what they choose to do and let them get on with it!
Oh and the final thought for this I have is I know not the thoughts of God on this matter but God does work in mysterious ways God's wonders to perform and as long as I am not doing anything technically or practically illegal then who am I to prevent the Almighty from helping me out and giving me this gift of providence.
If it is the will of God that this should be so then let it be so!Have faith in yourself and reach for the sky,
aim for the stars no matter how high.
Just follow your dreams they're waiting for you,
and you're the one who'll make them come true.0 -
I would always come clean and then if the shop assistant decices to leave it and give me the extra then I can leave the shop with a clean conscience and my head held high:j0

It would make no difference to me if it was Harrods or Primark. I would keep the full amount!!!
And i'm not gonna start going on about "I know it's wrong but........"
Sod that!!!!! there is a credit crunch/recession going on. I NEED THE MONEY ;-)0 -
I would own up, unless the voucher was that of a supplier. You know the type "This company will pay the value of xxx to the storeholder provided this voucher is redeemed against our product" which means they would get the full amount anyway, so a full refund would not leave me with any guilt.Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

I'd feel guilty and would have to say something, damn conscience.

I've done it. I bought something with my student discount which didn't work, took it back for a refund and they didn't notice. It wasn't much of a discount though, only about £2.50.
This reminds me of another time when I got £5 Debenhams vouchers in my pay packet. I went to use them in the Topshop concession on the last day they were valid. I also had a 10% student discount. After putting everything through (it took ages cos of the student discount) and crossing through the vouchers, the assistant was told the vouchers weren't valid in the concession. They'd already crossed through them! They tried to fob me off by giving them back to me and saying I could use them again and if anyone had a problem with it they could ring them up, but I wasn't having any of it (I didn't believe their method would work) so I insisted they gave me new vouchers (which then had no expiry date).
