MONEY MORAL DILEMMA: Should you come clean about the extra refund?

If I am in a small independent store, I would point out the error, however if I am in a large department store I would not mention it. If I leave a store and discover I have been short changed, I am not going to get my money therefore I wouldn't feel inclined to mention their error.0

I'd probably do my usual thing where I wouldn't notice until I was out of the shop. Then I'd probably keep the extra. A poster says about "rationalising our morality" but there isn't just right and wrong you know, there are shades of grey as well. And I think it does make a difference if it's an independent shop - I'd go back in that case. A larger store wouldn't notice. And it would depend on the attitude of the sales assistant - saying that, I hardly ever encounter bad service.0

Have to say I'd keep it and feel good about it as well!!:j0

No matter where I was, I would keep schtum. If the store offers me the full value (or their current sale price) to return an item I do not like, then I would take it.0

This has happened to me in the past and when I ahve spoken up the shop assistant said not to worry - it would help compensate for having to bring it back.
So, no, I wouldn't bother. If I had to take something back - even if it was just because I found I didn't like it after all - it is still an incovenience and unlikely to be a cheap one!0 -
I would confess because I feel they're already doing me a favour by letting me return an item just because I don't like it.
If I was returning it becaue it was faulty, I'd probably keep it because of the hassle of having to return it.I love it when a plan comes together :rotfl:0 -
How about this situation:
Bought something for Mrs P for Xmas - she liked it but not the colour, so on December 28th I took it back - got the full refund and bought the "correct" colour in the sale. Can't remember who got the difference, but it wasn't the shop.
Normally this situation does not occur because the original purchase is likely to be on a cash back credit card, though I do remember getting a full refund in cash one time.
It is a grey area, and the shop should train its assistants correctly.0 -
I once bought two tops in a shop and when I got home, I realised they had only charged me for one.
I then returned one and kept the freebie.
It probably is "wrong" but it's not high on my list of things to get moral about.0 -
If it's a business that believes in good customer service, say Marks & Spencer or Asda, then yes. If it was somewhere like Tesco or Ryanair that treat their customers with contempt, then no.0

I'm ashamed to admit this happened to me and I kept quiet
I'd ordered 6 wedding dresses and 2 toddler wedding suits from bhs and used a voucher code to get about 20% off which showed on the invoice at the bottom taken off the total not each individual item and when I returned the ones I didnt want the assistant didn't notice the discount. I know its wrong and I really can't justify what I did but I got my wedding dress and son's suit for a total of £750
