FSCS/Icesave EMAIL WINNERS?

  • I see a new option headed 'FSCS Claims' where I can click to 'Initiate' a claim. I suspect I could do this right now, but am reluctant to do so until I get my email, just in case it tells me something critical.
That has been available for several days now but when I tried it again just now it simply tells me the option is not yet available. No harm is done by trying to use it. There is nothing in the first email that is required to initiate the transfer. You just need to know your user name and various passwords, important places etc.
Those of you who have received emails - how informative are they? I am not asking you to quote contents just in case there is something personally sensitive.
The whole email is posted earlier in this thread. It just says you will get a second email in due course that will tell you that you can now transfer your money to one of the linked bank accounts to your Icesave account. and that you might not get this email till later in November. It also says if you want to changed the linked bank account you have to go through a manual claim process with a paper form where they will presumably go through more checks and demand more proof of ID.
  • Having just logged in again the website has now been substantially amended to just a repayment vehicle for your funds but still the words "Clear Difference" are allowed to remain on the home page of the website.

As the only "Clear Difference" about Icesave that now exists is that it went bust and we have been left without access to our money and have lost interest for several weeks while we await repayment why have the team of developers not been told to remove the provocative marketing slogan "Clear Difference" from the website? Also saying that Icesave is "the UK branch of Landesbankii HF" would be more accurate than saying it is "the London branch of Landesbankii HF" given that the whole damned operation was actually based in Newcastle.
  • Your posts are most helpful. I have now found the email quoted earlier in the thread. I will endeavour to contain my impatience until I get my own email. As one of my bonds matures on Christmas Day(!) I will take the money and run. I like it that I have the choice of what to do with my other bond.

You are in a much better position than us Instant Access (haha what a lie that was) types who are just being shafted with no interest at all while the FSCS (aka Newcastle Building Society under contract) takes its own sweet time to get round to paying us out.

It is very wrong that we are not getting any interest at all in the interim, especially when the date on which each of us can get back our money will not be the same. After all who paid the interest up to Oct 7th? Was it Icesave/Landesbankii or was it the FSCS? Why it was the FSCS so then why aren't they paying interest of some kind for these other few weeks too while we still do not have our money back?

You'll struggle to match the Icesave rates if you pull your money out now, and you'll lose about 5 weeks of interest. Best to leave it where it is unless you really need it for Christmas.

I think it's safe to assume that the FSCS paid the interest up to 7th Oct. However I believe that they will have a claim against Landesbanki/Official receiver for return of that.
Before someone screams what about the future interest to fixed term accounts? I believe this can also be reclaimed by FSCS in the future, as fixed accounts were for a set contract amount and were not repayable till maturity.
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !

That sounds like a pretty clear difference to me :D
