First email says that the second email will give instructions on how to log on to your account to claim. Surely saying log on as normal is not giving these details?

I would hope that logging on as normal is the way it's being done otherwise it's going to be open to phishing.

Once you logon as normal there is now a section that used to say "view account details". It now says FSCS claim - initiate. That button will not activate until you receive your 2nd email.

I have been coming to this board for 4 years now and have always appreciated the advise and information I've gleaned. I only registered and posted now because I thought it might cheer people up to know the compensation process had started.

    OK - makes sense.
I don't know why I seem to be the only one whose received the email and been able to go through the process in my account. All I know is that I did and I have. I must admit I was quite concerned myself I'd been defrauded until I received the confirmation emails this morning

So long as you went to the Icesave website and logged in from there as opposed to clicking on a link within the email, all should be fine.
For your information my surname begins with M and opened an Icesave account in April 2007. I had £10,000 in a fixed rate bond and £17,000 in the instant access account so don't know if that has any bearing either. Personally the words "names" and "hat" come to mind.

    I think you're right.

Thanks for the extra info and thanks for posting.
  • I saw a reporter from the BBC recently interviewing an expert (whose names both escape me) and he advised Icesavers to manually type in the Icesave web address (URL) into the address bar, rather than use browser Favourites, as it is (somehow) possible for scammers to actually secretly alter the "REALBANK.COM" to "FAKEBANK.COM" in their Favourites without the user even being aware of it and take them to a fake (but amazingly convincing) website.

Is this specific to Icesave or should we always do it for banking websites? Just clicked one of my banking tabs and confirmed the correct address came up in the address bar. Is that sufficient check?
This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !

It is easy to get paranoid listening to so-called 'experts' on TV, as long as you use a firewall and anti virus and you don't open dodgy emails the chances of the above happening are pretty slim IMHO.

Don't forget the media just love to scare people with sensational stories and some of the so-called 'experts' they use are not too expert either! :)
  • My daughter has received the 2nd email - this morning - she is a student and does not have a lot of dosh (about £7K) - she reckons the systems knows she is a hard up student - she can repay me her bail out money now - she had just put her student loan in Ice Save when it crashed!!.

I have not received my second email though. We both got the first ones about the same time-Tuesday last week.
  • wonder why it's 5 days for a BACS transfer, normally it's 3-4; or is the extra day a verification exercise...

It's difficult though, isn't it! Especially when I've just had a very harrowing 3½ week wait for money to be returned from Kaupthing Edge, which got lost in the ethers (otherwise known as the Administrators).
