Can someone tell me if this makes sense? I'm going to make some cards for the children with the following on:
5 minutes get dressed
10 minutes get school stuff ready for the morning
10 minutes tuba practice
15 minutes homework
15 minutes reading aloud
15 minutes tidying your room
15 minutes downstairs tidy
5 minutes putting clothes away neatly
They have the slips in the morning and the plan is when they've done what it says on the slip they give it back to me. If they do 15 mins homework and give me the slip they can have 15 minutes watching the telly...if they have no homework because they've done it all then they can just give me the slip anyway and have 15 minutes free. Once I have all the slips and everything is done it's free time and they can do whatever they like.
I don't think I'm being that unreasonable am I? They're 9 and 6 the big two. I'm fed up of them coming home and getting stuck like zombies in front of the telly as soon as they get into the lounge. I'm thinking that this is like buying your playtime and having a slip to hold and give up will be more interesting than a tick chart. We shall see how long it lasts though :rotfl:Fluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!

BRILLIANT IDEA :T :T :T :T :T and not in the least unreasonable. Unreasonable would be making them clean your all shoes with a toothbrush, cooking oil and water and expecting a shine.
We have job lists here, that have to be completed before free time. But it still slides from time to time, as you'll all have seen me rant about on here periodically! I think them buying their free time is genius. Bit like parole!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:MMSSB Club Founder Member

Just wanted to say that this feels so true, may I steal it for my facebook quotes (yes I know I'm sad!)
Ashia - you're welcome, my mum was one in a million! :happyhear
CS - any luck with your ring, hun?
SS - I do agree that sometimes "our troubles" seem overwhelming, just because they are usually present at a time when we are most vulnerable, which is why they become "troubles" instead of merely glitches. IYSWIM (philosphical head in here)
Natty - gentle, sympathetic hugs to you
Watching the Lord Mayor's Show but need to record rest as it's Christmas Fayre at The Salvation Army! Please may I go, Miss Pigpen?
Likklegibbon - you didn't offend me, and I would hope, on here, we can say anything without it causing offence as we are all friends! You were just saying what was concerning you at the time - see my reply above to SS
"Sorry for your troubles" is a lovely phrase and encompasses everything. I think i need to add that to my list of favourites
Gryfon - sounds like a good idea to me and similar to a scheme I used with DS. I printedf little "coupons" of different values, with a reward scheme eg lots of coupons for a DVD, smaller amounts for smaller treats.
Back later. xDMP mutual support thread No: 433 - Mortgage - £54,556, Credit cards - £4012, Unsecured loan - £3,376, Other - £419

Phew...was looking at it and adding it up to an hour and a half of work a night! However if they keep going at it then some nights there will be no homework, other nights it'll only take them a couple of minutes to get their school stuff ready for the morning, some days it'll only take them a few minutes to grab all their rubbish and stuff from downstairs and on other days there will be no clothes putting away! So it won't be so long each night, especially as they have days when they're very busy with other things...so I shall be nice and as long as they get most things done use my discretion.
I would pay them but can't afford it at the moment and I think they like their free time watching telly, playing on the x-box etc too much!Fluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!

I love this ..... " the Irish phrase 'Sorry for your troubles'. " I'm gonna use that too.
Right off to scrub children, and wash DD2 & DD3's hair....
If I'm not out in an hour, someone call the coastguard?!

Then basically you are teaching them, clearly and in a way that they will be able to understand, that they have chores/tasks/duties to do before they have free time to veg.
Makes sense to me - teaching them to prioritise like that can only reap benefits in the future...and free time which is earned and deserved is much nicer than sitting there in the guilty knowledge that there are things which should have been done...
