2009 is going to be THE year for me to become totally debt free. I've a 24K balance which is currently costing me 0% interest due to my stoozing activities. My mortgage deal of 6.09% with Northern Rock ends on 1st June 2009. On or before the 9th of November, I WILL become mortgage free.0

well i don't quite know how the overpayment's are going to go next year as the O/H and i have just about decided that we might possibly be going to Disney world again (it's my favorite place on earth) and it costs a fair bit of the paper stuff. we couldn't quite do both th boiler and the kitchen with what we have saved up so we've settled for just the boiler and the kitchen possibly in 2010 (i don't want to get a loan).I'm not going to stop my standing order of £200 but it's the extra that I'm worried about. in a way I'm being quite silly as I've been twice before and do we really need to go again?? is it going to have changed that much in 2 years since the last time we went?? can we really afford it seeing as I've made no bonus this year?? but i really really really want to go and will be very mardey<---(Yorkshire word i think) if i now don't go as the idea is already in my head!!! oh my god advice please!!!I am now debt free! Whoop whoop! :money::beer:0

How about a compromise, you can go every year if you want once the mortgage is paid off.
If you use the money you were planing on spending on Disney world next year to pay it off now, you'll be able to go that much sooner (and more regularly) once the mortgage is paid off. :rotfl:0 -

Hi Kezza - Im up for Disney next year too, priced it up for 3 weeks in Oct and it will be the first time I have taken the kids but its whether I want to compromise on the OP's as we cant afford to OP as much as I could if we didn't go (obvious I spose) and Im so addicted to seeing the term reducing Im not sure I want to compromise on it!! Always said that OP's wouldnt mean going without but Im not convinced I can stck to that!!
Think we will go for it tho!!!:DMFW 2010 Challenge (No 68) - £133.29/ £5000MFITT2 Challenge - (No 181) - Target Reduce mortgage to £130,000Mortgage @ 1.8.09 - £161160  @1.12.09 - £159052  @ 1.2.10 £157,3630 -

we're spending an obscene amount taking our kids to eurodisney for christmas this year. I think you have to balance making op's with having a life. The way I see it, my children aren't going to be little forever, so I'm going to enjoy them while they still want to spend time with me.Thanks to all the lovely people on here I have managed to cut my hours down to 2 days a week, allowing me to spend more time with my gorgeous Children. :j0 -
How old are you kids Zav? and how many more years do you have to make OPs to pay off your mortgage. If it means that by the time your mortgage is paid off and the kids will too old to go then I say, go now. They won't be little forever and time goes by so quickly.
Mine are now 15 and 10 and I really would like to take the Disney next October, but having a hard time convincing the OH (bah humbug!) that it would be a fantastic holiday and if we don't go then my eldest will never get there!! (not as a kid anyway!)When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:0 -
Can I be added please
I would like to pay off £6,000 by overpaying £500 per month0 -

Mine are 7 & 10 and I have officially got 24 years to pay!! but Im hoping to get it down to 10 years, although this might be a big ask I am going to go for it.
We will be going next year but the OP's will suffer, its just one of those things I s'pose - dont want kids to be too big before we go, (we've already lost the xmas spirit - Santa-What Santa??) OP's are ok and I am really enthusiastic about them as long as I can have a life at the same time and not miss out on things..... I s'pose its about balancing isn't it

Thanks for all the advice guys, well it looks like we're all going to Disney world in October (it is after all one of the cheapest times to go so technically we're still saving money)how weird is that, we'll have to have a mse mini convention over there. I had a long talk with the o/h and "we" (me) decided that as long as it doesn't impact too much on the o/p or the savings that we already have, i.e not savings that we are going to save next year then we can go so technically we're taking a year off of saving but not off of over paying if you catch my drift, we just have to reign ourselves in whilst we are over there and not go over the budget that we set for ourselves.now i just need to find a site with cheap Disney tickets cos they seem to have gone up by £40 since i last went!!I am now debt free! Whoop whoop! :money::beer:0
