  • Hi, Can I join please.

I want to overpay by £3,000 in 2009. That should work out at around £250 per month, which with the help of the OH should be managable.
I want to be credit card and loan free by Christmas 2010
  • Re: Disney.

Whilst I believe that you only live once and as long as you can afford something then you totally have the choice to decide how to spend the money (which is personal and subjective anyhow), I really don't understand the fascination with multiple Disney visits. :) Can anyone explain it? It is escapism based? Kind of like forgetting you are an adult with all the responsibility that entails whilst surrounded by Disney magic?

But then what of all the other wonderful experiences out there too? I was 13 the first time I went to Disney (Florida). I had a great time, because let's face it, who wouldn't? But it wasn't better than visiting the Pyramids, safaris in Africa or jumping the waves in the Seychelles with my Dad when I was four. Can anyone else relate to this? There are just so many wonderful things to discover that I can't get my head round it. :) Help!

And Zava, haven't made my 2009 goals yet, these get done on New Year's Eve at the earliest so will let you know as soon as poss for the list. I'm number 125, probably £12k overpayment if you want to put it in. I can always amend. x

  • I do agree with you Lunar in that I only plan to go to Disney once! I would like to do that next October as my ds will be 16 and somehow cannot see him coming with us if we leave it any longer. My OH really wants to visit South Africa/Kenya and Dubai and really doesn't want to go to Disney at all, but I feel that it is something that kids really want to do and if it can be done then great. I have told my OH that the other trips I feel are done when the kids are gone and we go on our own.
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:

We visit Euro Disney every year or so. We do other foreign holidays too but our DD loves Disney. We can get there in 3 hours door to door. You can't get to the Pyramids, Africa or even Italy in that time. So we go because it is something accessible that our DD enjoys. I don't believe in taking children on long flights. There are plenty of things to do that are just as enjoyable, closer to home. Long haul flights are planned for the parents benefit not the children. Each to their own though.

I don't even have kids it's all about me, I just love anything Disney, I'm a kid at heart I even try to get the o/h on all the kids ride's as well as the big ones, but when i say Disney world i should really say Orlando cos we spent more time in the other parks the last time we went my husband is a roller coaster monster and I'm the bag holder (i just go shopping whilst he waits in line), next year he wants to go swimming with sharks in south Africa .
I am now debt free! Whoop whoop! :money::beer:
  • Hiya zav,
Made my £707.70 OP on the 14th, but as the rate has changed, it could be a bit more. I haven't got time to check it at the mo but will update sig when I have. Keep up the good work guys and re Disney, I tend to hold back maybe alittle too much so I can clear debt as soon as, and probably should find a happy medium so do what's right for you, it's your life and you know you circumstances best, keep saving and have fun

  • Hello all, newbie here, been lurking for a while but it's about time I signed up properly.

I'd like to be included if you don't mind. Started new mortgage at the end of september, spending the rest of this year building up an emergency fund and getting other stuff sorted (like new home insurance etc.), hoping to start overpaying in January.

Assuming no disasters (roof caving in, boiler packing up, and the like) me and MrsBlackCat will be aiming for £3500 of overpayments for 2009. I'll aim to sort my signature out and keep it up to date with progress over the next year.
