Thanks for taking over the reins Zavarony! :D

We'll set a target of £6000 overpayment in 2009 based on Nationwide maximum of £500 per month. Assuming we continue to manage this OK we'll also try to save any extra we can.
2016 MFW OPd £2000, 2015 MFW OPd 3000 then bought new bigger house with bigger mortgage.
    MFW OPd 2014 £2000 2013 £9700 2012 £2848.39 2011 £2509.58 2010 £11000 2009 £112002008 £4939 :D
Beautiful boys born May 2011 and October 2013 :)

    Hi Zav,

    Thanks for taking charge.

My plans for 2009 are to take mortgage below £90,000, as it will be approximately £98,000 at the start of 2009.

My plan is to overpay £7500 in 2009.
Aiming to overpay £625 monthly by standing order and Regular Saver (8% Fixed 12 months) account (£500/£125).

Once bitten by the MFW bug, there is no going back.

    Hi Zav,

Please could you amend my pledge for 2009.

We've decided to reduce the term and incorporate the Regular Saver payments into the mortgage and pay £765 per month.
OP will remain at £500, so officially we'd only be overpaying by £6000.

I would like my pledge to read as:- Reduce mortgage to £88K

    Umu
  • Hi Zavarony, I am no 127 on the list. I would like my target to be £600 for 2009. The 2008 thread has really motivated me, although I don't post often - I am a bit of a lurker. My original target from July to December was £300, I have overpaid £1500 so far, hopefully with another £500 for next month. Most of this though is from closing bank accounts which had a couple of hundred quid in and zero interest rate, and cashing in some post office bonds I had forgotten about.

Thanks for taking over the challenge, and thanks to bellsbells for 2008.
  • Well done for starting up a new thread! Have just updated my total on the 2008 thread. Have to admit I've been really lapse in updating on that thread - oops!
Well I've decided to aim high on this thread - have been on the snowball calculator to work out how much I need to overpay by to achieve my target of being mortgage free in 12 years. Need to overpay by 7400 !!! So that'll be my target. Not sure if I'm aiming a bit high as I've just gone on maternity leave but I'm hoping that being at home a lot will motivate me more to keep going!
    Good luck everyone!

  • Hi, my first MSE post!

Overpay into offset account every spare penny we have, so difficult to say exactly, but aiming for £1500 overpayment per month for 2009.

Mortgage stands at £187,000 as of November 2008, target is to be mortgage free by October 2015 (seven years).

This is a wonderful website for motivation - good luck everyone :-)
  • Hi I am a newbie to this thread and am very excited about the prospect of getting my mortgage paid of early. Would love to have it paid off in 5 years. Hopefully will happen.

    Hi there,

    I've been lurking a while ;)

But, now is the time to make it serious I guess.

Would you count us in for £500 overpayments "per month", or rather £6000 for the year.

If we could do this, we would be on for our MFD being Sept 2013, which would mean we'd have knocked 10yrs off our original term.

Not sure how achievable it is, as we're currently renovating our house as well .. but aim high, aim high!!!

    Hi Zed,

I have added you to the first post at No 187, if you would PM me each month with your number and OP for the month and year to date that would make my life easier:rotfl:

  • Hi Zavarony
114 here. Aimed for £120 in 2008, will achieve that so going for £250 for 2009. Standing order of £17 every month for overpayment to the Abbey and payment a day /week/whenever I check on-line banking!! challenge for the rest. Depending on how moneysaving I am in the month, depends on how much extra I can sling at overpayments!!!!
Mortgage free as at 1/9/13 :j
