Hello Zavarony, even though I don't have a mortgage could I join in please?!
I'm aiming to save minimum of £500 per month (hopefully more) I'd like to go for a total of £7000 over the year :j
If at some point in 2008 I do leap into the property market then I'll have more of a deposit & can start overpaying my smaller mortgageLooking for the perfect home and saving to make becoming a MFW easier

My pledge is to start making overpayments in 2009!
Only a small amount to start with but my aim is to make a £500 per month payment by the end of 2009.
The overpayment calculator & members on this board have really inspired me!0 -
Hi all,
I won't be meeting my 2008 target sadly - we had to tighten our belts by the middle of the year and have hardly paid any extra since, but we still managed to overpay £710 which is certainly better than nothing.
With our limited budget in mind, I'm going to set our 2009 target at a total of £700 for the year. If I ever manage to find employment (:embarasse losing some confidence on this score though, as I keep getting knocked back) then we'll be able to get back in the swing of things.
Good luck everyone, and remember every little helps!0 -
Hi I'd like to become a MFW too!
Although ive got a much bigger journey than most as I currently have a 34 year mortgage on which i owe £137,674!
It sounds horrendous, but im 30 and even with the credit crunch my house is valued at £180k, ive just sorted a new first direct offset fixed for three years, although ill be paying 6% interest, im happy that the offset will help motivate me into paying it off and that I have the security I need.
Currently renting my spare room out to make extra cash and I have no other debts whatsover. Planning on overpaying approx £1500 min in the next year and offsetting all savings into linked saving accounts.
The only way is up! Wish me luck!Mortgage free wannabe!:

Hi Zavarony,
I'm no 167 on your list - Could you please change my overpayment target from £20k in 2009 to Reduce mortgage to £150k ( as the £20k is the reduction in the mortgage balance not just overpayments.)
Getting so excited :j
Many Thanks

Count me in...
aiming to overpay by £500 per month and put a small maturing savings plan in as well. It should reduce the mortgage by approx £10,000 this coming year.0 -

Hi Topaz - SorryI have ammended this for you - I'm getting excited too especially now I have found out I can make proper OP's rather than putting my OP's into an ISA so my mortgage will reduce loads quicker - will at least be able to see the difference the OP's are making:j
