Ha, this proves it. I had planned to start overpaying at the beginning of this year and I am Number 38 on the list
Glad I'm managing to put something on it before the year is out. How's about I set myself a small additional challenge and aim to pay off £700 by the end of the year, that's £325 over and above my additional payments.
Stick me down for £7000 -
ive had another bill come in this week so have reduced my standing order from £100 a week to £1 until im ready to put it back up again, but at least its something0

Hi Guys, I don't have a number - how do I get one???!
Anyway, overpaid £12,000 on the mortgage and set up £200 overpayments every month. Also aim to pay off at least an additional £1,000 per year. mortgage balance now stands at about £128,000 and counting. The £12,000 overpayment means an additional £20 a month minimum coming off the capital rather than interest (if I have looked at the calculator right! Doesn't seem a lot but it picks up after a few months!)
I've also set up an online Nationwide account so I can check in and see those figures dropping - lovely!
Hopefully we will be able to get onto a decent fixed rate before the variable shoots up. I've heard rumours it might stay low for at least 6 months but really don't want to get caught out!!
Big congrats to everyone making the over payments.0 -
Didn't manage my overpayment in August but hope to make amends this month. I am rejigging my bank accounts and moving some savings so hope to make a good overpayment this month to catch up last month. Onwards and upwards everyone.0

Should have mentioned - we owe £140,000 at the moment.
Hi Jacq, I've added you to the front page - would you mind adding the number to your sig please so I can find you - the list is getting longer :rotfl: an if you can PM me each month rather than just posting it on the thread Im more likely to capture it.
GOOD LUCK

Hi all,
Im still here honest!! Its been a while again and I cant believe where August has gone :rotfl: (and the sun with it by the looks of things)
Welcome to all the newbies this month  , just be warned the MFW bug is catching and makes you obsessional so dont worry if you already feel that way. If you could add your numbers to your sig then that would be a massive help as our list is gettin longer and its sendin me dizzy looking :rotfl: and if you can PM me each month with both the MONTH and Year To Date Totals that would be VV helpful.
Ive updated everything so far for August but think I've made a mistake with my adding upso I need to re add it, then I'll post the total like normal - Sorry all, just wish I could work out a way of getting it all on to one post, If you get any ideas on sorting this little problem for me I would be so so grateful
Any how best go get out my calculator........
See ya'll soon

As it’s now a year since I re-mortgaged, I’ve been having a proper look at my figures to see how far I’ve come. And I am absolutely stunned to realise that not only has my mortgage reduced by £8,000 in a year, but I have also (somehow!) managed to put £6,000 away into savings – a total of £14,000 dedicated to mortgage-bashing! :j
This is amazing to me, as I only earn just over £20k a year, before tax!!
I have been lucky with overtime this year, and have made an extra £2,000ish from that alone. And of course since I’m on a tracker the base rate drops have helped enormously, meaning that more of my regular payment goes to capital instead of interest.
But most of the extras are from all those little MSE things that seem to only amount to pennies – they really do all add up! I’ve made around £100 from free scratchcards and a couple of games of free bingo, and even though I haven’t used Quidco very much this year, the odd £10 payment here and there has really helped. I usually earn around £25 a month from Avon too, which I’ve been putting towards the mortgage savings, and all my £2 coins have been put aside as well. And then there has been an occasional sale on Amazon or ebay, with the profits being swept into the mortgage fund. I keep meaning to have another go at matched betting, but even without that the bits and pieces from elsewhere have made such a huge difference!
So I just wanted to say a massive thank you  to everyone on here (and on the DFW board, where I don’t often post but get lots and lots of inspiration! :A) And to anyone just starting out who doesn’t think it’s worth the hassle doing all those little extras – keep at it, it really is worth it, and it won’t be long before you notice those numbers coming down! :cool:MFiT-T5 #52 - aiming to clear mortgage completelyJanuary 2019: £19620 ~ November 2021: £0.00!0 -
Hi everyone, just made a September OP of £121:
154. Cake21 - £7311 / £121 / £7311
That's the maximum I'm allowed to overpay this year (calendar year 2009), thank you so much to everyone for the inspiration :T:A
