I recieved a letter today through the post to confirm that my 'Guaranteed Saver' account was opened and funded in the reward period and therefore qualifies for the 6.0% fixed rate. I guess everyone will get one of these. This should set people's minds at rest that they have secured the good rate despite what it shows online.
What date did you open your account? if I don't receive the letter I might call and ask for one!

Enough people opened this account that they can't just turn around and say "sorry, we're only paying you a variable rate of xyz%". It was opened as a fixed rate, provided you kept to the terms and conditions.

If you keep to the T&Cs, the Reward will be added at the end of the term. But until they check that you've met the current account funding requirements, it's in effect a standard Guaranteed Saver, with variable rates.

absolutley correct the reason its show as a variable rate is because until the end of the 1yr term the conditions are not met .

Halifax wont now until then that you have met the terms and condtions in regards to the four withdrawals, keeping minimum 2500 in the account and on with regards to the 6% account that you are funding the current account with 1000 per month.

I had a letter today which doesn't say my account was opened and funded during the reward period. Does it specifically say in your letter that your Guaranteed saver account will qualify if you meet the other conditions?

    Thanks

    This is what I received

"We are delighted you chose to open Halifax guaranteed saver account. As outlined in your terms and conditions ,we wanted to confirm that all Guaranteed saver accounts opened and funded between 1 Nov and 27th nov 2008 qualified for our limited edition Halifax Guaranteed saver reward."

Then it mentions about the conditions. I am asking this because I opened the account and paid in cheque at the Halifax bank counter on 25th Nov but the cheque must have cleared only on 3rd dec.

    Thanks again

Ah sorry, not it doesn't actually say 'my' account qualifies. Though I guess as you can prove when your account was openend, along with this letter that's the evidence that you should get the 6% rate if there any quibbles after the 12 months.

It's the date they applied the cheque to the account that's relevant (the 25th I assume?). The value date (the date the cheque cleared) is immaterial to this account for qualification purposes.

  • I opened my GSR with funds from my exisiting GS back in mid November, so should be OK with the rate, but my question is can I now add further funds to the GSR [currently have £8,300.00 in it]? Is there a ceiling? If I can, would I get the reduced rate on the new savings?

  • yes you can make additional deposits to that account as you want and still get access to it with your 4 withdrawals
