Chuffit! I should have read this thread first - in a rush over the fact that I believed I had til 1st of Dec to get initial funds in, then it's pulled forward to 26th I missed the chance to push the £2.5k through the relevant Halifax current account and tick the 1k this month box on the way. Of course I asked their CS if I had til month end for the current account deposit... and no they DIDN'T take the opportunity to suggest doing it the smart way. So now I have to risk bacs fund tranny to my HSBC current a/c arriving in time to do a FP to Halifax a/c before Sat!

I might be wrong... but I don't think you get a card with the GSR. You get it with the 'relevant current account' you use to put the 1k pm in to get the reward...don'tcha?

That didn't work properly I was trying to post a table from their site http://www.halifax.co.uk/savings/Highinterestaccounts.asp which shows account can be accessed via cash machine.

It doesn't have to be from a source external to Halifax. You can SO £1k monthly out of a Halifax current account into one of their websavers .... then SO it back next day. And that satisfies the funding requirement.

A mechanism satisfactorily deployed by many people on these forums .. and I've never known anyone fall foul of it. In fact Halifax staff set the SOs up for my Mother (High Interest current a/c .....> Liquid Gold) to achieve that. Before I took over her accounts and ditched the Liquid Gold .. but set it up similarly but using a websaver. No problems and achieved the 6% the High Interest was paying at the time. It still works that way .... Halifax know about it generally and have taken no steps to shut down the loopholes.

Gosh I wish I dared to do this - it would make life much easier - but I don't want them to use this as an excuse in 12 months to pay me 4.5% instead of 6%!

I stand corrected, thanks Icesaver - but at least say I may be wrong; so I wasn't one of those who post who state totally incorrect info. without any disclosed degree of doubt...
  • Hi,

Last month i opened a Halifax guaranteed saver reward but , this is the old one (after only one month !!!) and is only 5.5%. Luckily i saw this thread, and transferred it to the new 6.0% one with the 1k current account rule. It just shows how vigilant you have to be.

No, those people on the variable rate (i.e. who did not open it during the reward period) are on 4.5% (http://www.halifax.co.uk/savings/personalrates.asp#HGS).

But, anyone who opened and funded it during the reward period is still guaranteed 6% for the year (as long as they meet the T&Cs).
