Did I mention it's also a good idea to add 1.5 litres of water?

Hehe thats something i would do!!
Thank you for this recipe, my OH loves sweet chilli dipping sauce but I only buy it as treat as its quite expensive. I might make this as a suprise for him!:dance:0 -
let's just hope nobody jumped the gun and started cooking some without water
that'd be some seriously strong sauce!

Good recipe, might give that a go, my local oriental supermarket does litre bottles of sweet chilli sauce for 99p though.
Might be worth checking local oriental/thai shops if you have one nearby, they are usually far cheaper than TescoMissing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
I guess asian shoppers are under no illusion as to the simplicity of their local sauces
I wonder if they sell bottles of gravy for £1.50 in Thailand? :rotfl:
I guess £1 for a litre is bridging the price gap somewhat.. can't beat the potency of fresh chillis and garlic thougha lot of store bought brands list ingredients as "picked garlic" and "pickled chillis" I noticed.

Thanks for this...
Can this be used as a sauce, ie sweet chilli chicken?
Also, how long does it keep? :-)
JI love giving home made gifts, which one of my children would you like?:A

Quite possibly! lol
If you are in the area (or near) on bank holiday weekend take a bottle of your sweet chilli sauce to the fiery food festival in Brighton http://www.fieryfoodsuk.co.uk/
There is a amateur hot sauce maker of the year competition on!
(and yes I have entered but I'm keeping my recipe a secret!)
Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Not sure it's up to competition standard to be honest
And Jenny, I'm pretty sure it can be used as a sauce for marinading and to spread on chicken, with rice etc etc. The picture used to illustrate the recipe is actually a chicken drumstick, covered in sweet chilli sauce, with some rice on the side and a bit of sauce on that too
No idea how long it keeps, it doesn't say. Probably quite a while I would think, what with all the sugar and vinegar, and not a great deal of perishable ingredients.0 -
Sounds like a great Recipe...I make alot of pickles and chutneys to raise money for a local charity...OH doesn't like the smell of boiling vinegar and sugar though - can't get away from that...........

How long would this sauce keep for?0

Yonks! The vinegar and sugar are preservatives, so kept in the fridge I reckon it would be good for months. An unopened container almost indefinitely0
