  • I'm a lot the same as I don't invite feedback at any point during the transaction. I email them after I've posted to say it's on it's way and I ask them to reply to my email to confirm receipt. I'd say about 60% of people do this.

At this point I occasionally find that you often get gushing replies about the wonderful condition, speedy delivery type thing. These people I do target as I figure it's a shame to waste the opportunity! I reply to them and say thanks for letting me know and that I'd be very grateful if they could leave me positive feedback as I'm still quite new to amazon and still establishing myself as a seller. I then copy and paste amazon's instructions for leaving feedback (can be found on the seller's help pages). This always seems to work.

The others I leave to do it in their own time (usually when Amazon remind them which can be ages after the transaction actually happened and they've probably forgotten the finer details!)

This sounds a great way of doing it. I have been emailing to say I have sent out the book, and very gently asking for feedback, sending a link to Amazon's feedback page, but have often wondered if people feel forced to leave it. Luckily so far, I have only had good feedback.

I think I will change to your even more gentle method, thanks!!

chickadee's post reminded me of a diary entry :D I suppose it is in a way (for us booknutters, so thanks ;)

Sofa, I read it back and you are right. I'm so used to talking to myself, I even write like that! :o

    Dear Diary,

Does anyone know the best time to go to the post office? It doesn't matter what time I go, there is always a queue a mile long. Then I feel guilty, especially when they say "You mean you want a certificate of posting for ALL of them?" followed by a big sigh.

I need to have a trawl round some new charity shops. The stock doesn't seem to change much in the city centre ones. They still have the full set of How My Body Works. It takes up almost a full shelf in there. When they are lined up the spines make a picture, like the Mr Men ones. The evil person iside me wants to buy a couple of odd ones, just to mess them up, or even put them in the wrong order just for devilment. :D (Makes mental note - must get out more!)

I am in the process of designing a system of coloured stickies to stick on my books to denote which websites they are listed on, so I know if they are on two I need to delist the other if it sells. I haven't got through all my stock yet though.

becky, I have every sympathy with you and the essay deadline. I remember too well hitting the word count button with depressing regularity when I was doing my uni work. Hope your finger isn't slowing you down too much, although looking at your busy schedule it will take more than that to slow you down.

    Happy selling fellow bookworms!

  • do you mean 'the seller has actually lost money' in the final paragraph? QUOTE]

Yes they could have listed at the full buyer waiting price and would have instantly got it. If there had been more than one buyer waiting then they could have listed for more than the average buyer waiting price.

Where you say there is no used guide price but there is a buyer waiting. The probable reason there is no used guide price is because Amazon arent selling it new. As I mentioned in my earlier message there is only a used guide price if Amazon are selling the book new. Its a set percentage of their new price.

Where a buyer waiting price disappears between pages it is because the buyer waiting offer has been cancelled or fulfilled but the database hasnt updated yet. Does take a while.

I would avoid all days between about the 26th of the month to about the 5th of the next as its road tax renewal time and each customer takes much longer to be served. :o))

Fortunately my post office is a franchise and so the owner makes a profit on each parcel so they are very welcoming!

errrmmm they arent amazon's guide prices, the amounts you see are the average amount the buyers are prepared to pay.

So, if there are two buyers waiting for a copy and one has offered £ 20 and the other £ 40 the price you see is £ 30 but you could sell your copy for
    £ 40.

Consequently, if a seller offers their copy for anything less than the maximum price offered by the potential buyer then the sale goes through automatically and the buyer has actually lost money because they could have charged the full amount.

how do you know if a book has buyers waiting?

mine too! they're always very friendly in there

mine still accepts the handwritten COP's too (vs printing out a slip for each item) and i forgot mine the other day no problems i was so appologetic and she was honestly not fussed even though it had the full 10 parcels on it and there was a queue backing up !

she even gave dd a colouring book to use while i waited for her to print the slips out for me... they know i'm doing a lot of sales and they are always happy to see me, i've even offered to help the owner sell off all the stock he's got clogging up his basement and the front room of his house... one of these days he'll have enough time to let me get started on it too ;-)

i've sold another video and another book today so i'm pleased about that.

had to relist 8 books too but one of them pleasantly went UP pricewise so i upped my price too!

Becky - haven't got a book on it, sorry... if it's what I think it is, then I am using it at the moment (perhaps too much info??!!) - well, not right at this moment! Always thought it was an old wives' tale, but obviously not!! Have you googled it?!? Perhaps THAT's why those women on that Extraordinary B.....feeding programme a week or so ago, were still at it with 8 year old children!!

Definitely not an old wives tale providing you meet the 3 criteria, I know that for a fact having trawled through74 research articles today!
With regards to that programme the child has to be less than 6 months old for it to work, however I guess watching your wife/partner feeding your 8 year old would make anyone want to abstain which is the only contraceptive that comes with a 100% guarantee!
Word count 2600 am getting there!
I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

just sold another book on amazon

bought it a few weeks ago for £1 at a charity shop, sold it for £10 ;-)

the amazon thing isn't going to make me rich but it sure is a nice trickle of income. i've been so busy with taxes and other deadlines that i've not had time to add much stock to ebay

in fact i only have 8 items on right now (unheard of)

after next week i'm going to do a huge push on both ebay and amazon...

but like i said, the amazon has been a nice trickle of income, just had them send me £50 and i'm nearly up to that again already in only a few days

    Thanks purple ... :)

I've just started buying penny books from Amazon again and I treat the sellers the same as I do on eBay. I leave feedback the moment I log on to the comp.

Having bought a 1p book a while back, which is probably filed away under all the bumf that Amazon sends, I think I was reminded by Amazon about the feedback system. If my recall is anything to go by (and that's so haphazard I can't find my payments! :o any help there appreciated too), Amazon sent me a reminder ages after I'd left feedback :D

If receiving those penny books has taught me anything, it's to open up a dialogue with buyers before they receive any books I sell. (And in some cases, excuses late deliveries by blaming the postal service ... which is good ... because as I've changed to 1st class for everything ... I'd rather know it gets there in first class time :)) So I'll change my usual posts from just "thank you etc etc etc ..." to include, at least, a mail that invites them to say when the books have been received.
