  • Heh, I'm sure anyone who sees you hopping excitedly around the garden will think you're a mental, but it comes with the dog owning territory I'm afraid ;)

  • HOORAY FOR CHEESE!!!!!

    She was clean last night, and this morning has done both wees and poos in the garden straight away! :D She's now running around the house like a loon with her squeaky toy looking very pleased with herself! :D

    I think I need to buy one of these tshirts (top left):

    WELL DONE - to you and doggo - its amazing what a bit of hard work, consistency and cheese can achieve!! Really pleaed for ya, and I think we should join the cult of cheese and wear the t shirts!:rotfl:

    I'm sure she will - but I think you need to keep re-inforcing this for a while - don't get too relaxed, she may wel have further accidents in the house, it is still early days, so keep on with the praising and treating when she goes outdoors! :beer:

    However, do cut the cheese into very thin slivers - otherwise you may end up with a very well trained but spherical dog!! :rotfl: :rotfl:
  • I also have another guaranteed treat, takes a bit of prep but once it's done, is a very cheap way of rewarding your dog...

    50p tin of 8 hot dog sausages, cut them into thinish slices, then each slice into 4. Put the resulting pile of little bits onto a baking tray and heat in the oven for about 20 minutes (oil the tray a little to stop them sticking).
    Scrape off into a bowl or onto a plate, let them cool and then armed with freezer bags, add a few to each bag and freeze. I think I've got around 20 per bag, but that's because I'm going to be using them for off the lead walks and recall with my puppy a few times per week. You can put fewer into each bag and use them sparingly if it's just for 'toilet' treats :)

    ohh good idea!

    more cheese for meee! :beer::rotfl:

  • good tip M_C - I will try that.

    I also freese leftover bits of meat cut into little cubes for treats, and leftover chicken skin cut into strips, and my dad dehydrates slices of left over liver in the oven, which the dog loves.

    We went out for a meal a while ago and had some very tough chewy steaks - as did the rest of our party - I started wrapping mine up to take home for the dog and someone took it upon themselves to nab the rest of our parties chewy steaks for me to take home, so I ended up with ahandbag full, and the dog was eating steak for weeks!!

    Also, when an (edible) rind is left over from a piece of cheese, or one end has dried out, I slice that up and bung it in a sandwhich bag and use it as treats.

    She also loves slices of apples, raw carrot (helps clean teeth), and adores tomatoes but be wary of things that can be toxic to dogs - chocolate (esp. dark), grapes and raisins, onion, sorbitol (sweetener found in many chewing gums and mints) etc.
  • i have the hotdogs in the oven now and they don't half pong! lol

    i was also advised once to get tescos value wafer thin liver slices, and chop them into teeny weeny bits as a high value super cheap treat/training aid

    EDA as far as cheap treats go couldn't beat my old dogs love for ice cubes :D
