We still have problems with Tia but its getting less and less , I just mop it up with non bio powder .
I never say anything to her even though you think, no not again .
Perhaps she is confused as to where she has to ask to go out .
Tia wont go out if its raining or with the fireworks .
Just a silly thought but in the first few weeks of having Tia she never had a wee whilst walking now she has settled and got to know her walk she wee's every bit of grass we come to , which makes me think she is now marking her territory0 -
Can you train her to go on command ,when mine were puppies each time they went outside as they did a wee I would say, be a good boy or be a good girl now when I go out and need them to go I give the command and instantly they will perform.0

Thanks - I thought as much re the newspaper - just wanted to double check
Not a silly thought Foxy - my garden has no fences (council won't allow them grrr), and I know my old dog used to like to check the garden boundaries before going for a wee - but obviously new dog doesn't know where the garden stops and the road begins as she's been used to an enclosed garden before. Also answers one of FC's questions - I don't really have anywhere she can go outdoors unsupervised... there is a communal garden round the back but its not ideal and she just squeezes under the gate and follows me if I try and leave her
Might try lifting the carpet until its under control - wrong time of year to be carpet-less, but if I don't do something I'll need to chuck it out soon! lol!
Yes - always praise her etc when she goes whilst walking. Its such a shame for the poor pooch as it wasn't a problem in her last home as far as I know, and she's lovely otherwise - I hate to think that she's getting worried and confused over it
I can't think of anything interesting to write here.........0 -

That would be ace
I fully intend to get her to know 'go for a wee now'
Btw, whenever I say 'go to the toilet pooch' she goes and gets a ball
:rotfl: maybe her old owners are having a laugh  I can't think of anything interesting to write here.........0 -
She will settle - she is very very new and doesnt really know what you want from her yet. You will get there, do not despair!!
I think she has learnt to go outdoors unobserved, and has probably been in trouble when people have seen her go, ie when she was a pup and peed indoors - the dog probably thinks it is the being seen, rather than where she does it that gets her into trouble.
Its a bit difficult without a secure garden so perhaps we need to think laterally - can you take her to the park on a long line where she might be able to get behind bushes etc to go?
I would not let her off for a run in the park yet because she may run off or get lost. (I never let mine off lead for at least two weeks, or until I am sure they come when called!)
Taking her to places where other dogs toilet and letting her have a good sniff may encourage her to go there.
I think taking up the carpet might be a good idea, for a few days at least, as the dog peeing on it is all extra stress for you.
i also trained mine to pee when out by saying 'good! clean dog!' every time she went to the toilet outside and giving her a treat (not many dogs can resist a little sliver of cheese) - after a while the phrase 'clean dog' made her go!0 -
what sort of dog is she btw?0

Ahhh!! - That makes sense, about her thinking that being seen is the problem, especially coupled with the unsupervised outdoors access she's accustomed to! Yes there is a park we go to - I'll try that tomorrow with the long line - she's a sucker for cheese as well

She's a small/medium sized cross-breed - very cute
Thanks for all your advice by the way - it really is appreciated!I can't think of anything interesting to write here.........0 -
Could you use a stair gate to keep her confined to one room and away from the front door ,then every half hour with out fail put her lead on and take her out she will need to go sooner or later If you can break the habit and keep her from the front door she will soon get the message .0

she will be fab, just keep at it and dont let it get you down - I know it can seem like there is no progress, but she will be starting to trust you, which is the important bit, and you wll get there!
Can we see piccies please??0 -
hooray!! first wee in the garden with me in attendance lol!! cue LOTS of praise and treats! she seemed most surprised to be getting praised for it

thanks for all your help FC - I'm afraid I don't have a digital camera so no piccies
I can't think of anything interesting to write here.........0
