just recieved a text from +447500585776 and the text read Call me 02081142920 Sara Xxx no mention of adult chat line or anything going to give a call and see if they come back to me will give them the post code of PI55 0FF.0

Somehow I doubt they will pursue me, it was probably a scare tactic that some people might fall for. I don't know how much they think I owe them but I doubt they'd bother going down the line of tracking me down, going before a judge to say I owe them some money merely because I called a phone number.
It was just so cheeky the way she was demanding that I give her my postcode.
Ooh, that name sounds familiar. I'm sure they said their name was something like 'Tele billing'.
I found this thread which was quite interesting:
http://www.grumbletext.co.uk/vt.php?t=371
Apparently some people even have received demands for payment through the post!
I just clicked on the grumbletext link...it said i was banned... !!!!!! never been there beforeLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
I don't think its that ridiculous. The threat of doing something is usually a lot worse than actually doing it. Also would any married man on this forum want a baliff turning up and telling his wife they want payment for an adult phone line? This is the perfect scam as most people would pay up to avoid any embrassement.
I'm sure my husband would complain to me if it happened to him - knowing that I wouldn't hesitate to believe him.
If it happened to me - I'd tell him about it too."Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)0 -
That's you-not everyone is the same-and it doesn't make them irrational to be concerned how that type of text might be interpreted.0

I got a text like that today to my mobile, It was from a vodaphone number asking me to 'Call Abi' the gave a fixed line number. I had just put my mobile number on Gumtree to find our lost cat - so I had to call it- in case it was about her. I heard the first few seconds of a messge saying it was a sexually explicit line. I immediattely hungup - as I had heard that some of these cost £40!.
The messsage was sent from a Vodaphone, asking me to call a fixed line 0208 number.
I am publising the numbers of this scumbag, but what I'd really like to do is report it to Vodaphone but cant see how to on the website. Any ideas? and I wonder what BTs policies are about their lines used on this way. anyone know? Incidentally the mobile that sent text was: 07786 409 573, and it asked me to call 02081142920.

Lee, what protocols do Vodafone have to help deal with the scammers who buy lots of SIM cards for yours (or any) network and then use them to send out SMS with things like this?
If there isn't one, I think it's well past time that the mobile operators actually worked together to do something about it before the EU or the UN gets involved and does something to protect consumers (and you don't want the UN to get involved, not with their new "Omega" statute book).0 -

It's a good question!
When something like this is identified, we take as much detail as possible and pass it on to our Fraud, Risk and Security team to perform an investigation and take any necessary action.

Thanks
