Cheeky beggars! I'm as furious as if I got the text myself! We only buy for people we're actually seeing over Xmas - my parents, OH's dad and OH's sis, BIL and two children. I send a small tokem pressie (funny calendar etc) to my best friend, and OH gets something small for his. Thats it, end of.
OH's neice and nephew are the worst to buy for as they are spoilt rotten and have everything under the sun, so we gave them money to learn to sail last year. Now I'm trying to think of another 'experience' for a 8 & 11 year old but they certainly don't get £30 each spent on them and we're certainly not 'told' what they're getting!0 -
Poor you. These relatives sound disgusting, and sum up everything that Christmas is NOT about! I agree with other posters who say get them a charity gift, and go on and on about the true meaning of Christmas, as they obviously need reminding what that is. I really can't believe their rudeness (are you sure it's not a joke?!!)0

Thanks all for your replies

Well a decision was made my end - I have purchased for them a meal for 70 Cambodian children
I feel like I've done a very good deed and the hideous children can be reminded of how very lucky they are to have food on their plates every evening!
However to add insult to injury - on Saturday whilst shopping I received a text to state presents had been purchased and I owed X amount - yet to reply to that one but OH thinks we should just pay up and give the charity gift too to save arguments/embarassment. I however want to stick my 2 fingers up and say I have already purchased a very well considered, thoughtful gift for the family.
The argue will no doubt carry on until Christmas eve!!!Baby Boy arrived March 25th 2010 - 17 days late & 8lb 10oz :j0 -
^^Hehe, well done
Send them a message asap saying you have bought their gift already and you hope they have kept the receipts?:D

I'd still send the text to say, sorry already purchased this end.
Have the camera ready when you show/tll them what the present is - please!0 -
Superb! How generous of you to feed 70 children that you've never even met.
Can I ask where the site is and howmuch please? I might pay some myself.
Oh, is it this one..................

I would be furious if somebody did that to me. Tell them that you're not buying any Christmas presents at all this year, not even amongst close family and that instead you've all decided to donate a Goat to Charity.0

Go on tell us - what's the x amount?
I think sending a text 'Sorry, but what are you on about. We have already purchased a very well considered thoughtful gift for the family. I do hope you have kept the receipt' would be a very diplomatic way of telling them to s0d off without upsetting your OH.0
