Am I completely unreasonable?!

WOW!
I cannot believe these people! I've never heard of someone so rude! Please don't give in to them, you will get it every year if you do! Stand your ground, I bet if you don't she will get worse each year as she will know you will just pay up. She sounds like the type of person who would happily tell you where to go if you had done this so tell her where to go! I love the kind donation to the children and think you should just give them that. They won't appreciate it but those kiddies will.
I'm all for giving out lists of presents to those who ask me for it but normally they give me a budget and I never go over it. Instead I give a few items ranging in price and allow them to pick off it, that way I still get a surprise and they can select the item that suits their budget! Saving hard for a brighter future!:beer:0 -
I'd print off this thread with a note saying 'and I think this sums up why we are not paying for your chosen gifts' and pop it in a nice charity shop card with your well thought out charity gift.
I'm shocked by the cheak of this and well done you for rising above it and helping out people who really need it!House saving Targets:

We would like a 37inc plasma. Can we please have your credit card details... and when we order it do they want it delivered to you to wrap up for us, or it ok to come straight to our house? Or if it's easier for you we can send your token gifts over Christmas week, and you can do the same for us. *Quote*
Love it! Only I'd ask for a bigger HD TV and DVD player with a whole host of family favourite DVDs!
*Quote* Don't reply right away. Give them a chance to buy the stuff.....THEN let them know you aren't going to pay for them *Quote*
Also love this idea, it appeals to my inner bitca! lol
*Quote* I've told them not to bother this year, as OH is about to lose his job plus baby on the way, its just not possible. So. BIL and co have been rubbishing us to anyone who will listen that their darlings are not getting a Wii now, and its all our fault! *Quote*
Awww will the spoilt little ones not be able to play pointless video games locked up indoors when theres a big wide world just waiting for them to explore?
Maybe I'm just a meanie really, but I think the whole 'I choose, you pay' thing is ridiculous! How dare people assume that in the current economical climate that it's OK to tell you what you spend your hard earned money on! Would they be OK with it if you had sent the same text message to them demanding a specific amount to buy the most expensive gifts.
Ok, rant over!Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you.:p

the cheeky cow!
I have nothing to add that hasn't already been said, but just want to congratulate you on your restrained (& lovely) choice of charity gift. I'd have gone with the loo or the worms

I'd send them a text saying oresents already sorted and then log onto World Vision, Oxfam etc and buy them a cow, or pig. If you know there email then send them the link from agelavdavis post.
I've supported WV for a number of years but had never seen that advert. Its brilliant
I work for World Vision and I have got to add that we appreciate each and every donation/alternative gift request that we get - and it really does put things into perspective about what is really important. :A I got gifts from World Vision for my family last year and they were really touched, I think they all preferred that present out of all that I got them! I will definitely be doing that again this year. Gifts start from a fiver and we'll send a lovely card back to you, or directly to your gift recipient - no need to worry about posting it in time!
(Also, if you post the gift catalogue orders instead of doing them online, you will be keeping me in this job that I love and desperately need, so pleeease post them!)0 -
Ok - beginning to think I must be a witch or something - please tell me I'm not?!
Christmas is coming & I am skint - job is on the line and OH's job doesn't pay very well all things considered, we own a home, he has a reasonably expensive car, and we struggle to get by comfortably. OH came home yesterday to show me a message from some barely known relation saying we would be buying Xmas gifts for their family - they would choose and we could pay. To me, that's downright rude. Isn't it?! I had intended to get nothing, or at least something very small, as I disagree with buying for buying's sake, and I am not made of money.
Am I being unreasonable in getting annoyed at this?
The only one who is being unreasonable is the Relation. Its the thought that counts, and Only buy what you can afford. if they complain well you know what to get them next year. NOTHING.;)SHOPPING RULE: ONLY BUY WHAT YOU REALLY NEED0 -
Gymfriend
youve gone quite on this pls tell me you or your oh hasnt paid this money
and pls tell us u told them what to do with there probally paid for by another relitive moblie phone txt0 -
i buy for who i want to not those that expect or demand gifts. about 3yrs ago my grandparents said i was "too old for gifts, and they were only buying for my children". so i was polite in telling them that "they are older than me and therefore if i am too old for gifts then they will only be getting something small from the children".
i dont buy for my best mate anymore nor her me, but we do both buy something small for each others children. last year i did get her a jokey gift (orgasm keyring) as she had recently split from her husband, it was reduced to £1.99 as had no battery!!! i get my kids, OH, and sister only. if others dont like then tough!due to spilling coffee :coffee: on my keyboard it works when it wants to :rotfl:

Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together0
