Am I completely unreasonable?!

Ok - beginning to think I must be a witch or something - please tell me I'm not?!

Christmas is coming & I am skint - job is on the line and OH's job doesn't pay very well all things considered, we own a home, he has a reasonably expensive car, and we struggle to get by comfortably. OH came home yesterday to show me a message from some barely known relation saying we would be buying Xmas gifts for their family - they would choose and we could pay. To me, that's downright rude. Isn't it?! I had intended to get nothing, or at least something very small, as I disagree with buying for buying's sake, and I am not made of money.

Am I being unreasonable in getting annoyed at this?

Are you kidding? That was your OH's idea of a joke right?

You send a message straight back asap saying thanks for the instructions but unfortunately this year you will have to send everyone a very small token gift only.

Bloody cheek of some people. I'm annoyed for you.

not at all tell your OH to send a text back explaining that with the credit crunch you are feeling the oinch and will only be buying token gifts if anything at all.
And as for them buying and you paying that just beggars belief.
I would actually now not buy anything to make a point.
Xmas is NOT an excercise in getting as much as you can!!!

I would come over all religious :-D

Christmas is a time for showing you care, not materialism, and therefore you were planning on giving everyone home made gifts this year, the time commitment being a demonstration of your caring :-D

Hopefully that'll guilt them a bit.. and you can get away with home made cakes costing a coupe of quid each to make!

Nope, and why should have to do as you're told? These things go bothways! What are they getting you? Anything you choose and they pay?

    Send this text:

We would like a 37inc plasma. Can we please have your credit card details... and when we order it do they want it delivered to you to wrap up for us, or it ok to come straight to our house? Or if it's easier for you we can send your token gifts over Christmas week, and you can do the same for us.

Of course this assumes they have a sense of humour, understand irony, and will not be terribly offended. LOL

Oh my goodness - that is so rude !!! If anyone sent DH a message like that I would spite them by not buying anything at all.

I cannot believe how rude some people are.

They will buy us some absolute rubbish - as always. Last year I received some sick inducing jewellery - clearly because they don't know me well enough to buy me something I might actually want.
Glad I am not being totally unreasonable, they will be received whatever I can find from last year that was no good to me now :D hahaha
